[X] Betting Tips

[  ] Sporting Discussion

Interesting thing came out of the first Eurovision semi-final last night. There were 18 countries taking part, with ten going through to Saturday's final.

In the 'To Qualify' market on Betfair, the top ten in the betting (who were all at 1.x) were the ones who qualified. Ten from ten - no shocks at all. I think this is due to the fact that the ten qualifiers are the top nine in the telephone voting, plus the top country from a jury vote that doesn't make it through from the phones. This essentially provides a get out of jail free card for a favourite who, for some reason, doesn't pick up the phone votes.

For tomorrow's 2nd semi-final, once again there are ten favourites, ten countries who are at 1.x, with the others at 2 or greater. I've bet on 8 of the ten (ignoring the ones at 1.02 and 1.04) and would expect all eight to come through - even if one or two miss out it's a profit.

Nine out of the ten went through - only Serbia didn't. Unfortunately their block vote wasn't enough to overcome the complete shitness of their song, which allowed their neighbour Croatia to sneak through. Still, a nice little profit booked.

Eurovision costs so much to put on now (Russia have spent £30m on this year's) that I think you will see hosts take a dive for a few years after they win so they don't have to do it again - Russia's entry this year is quite weak.

I think Norway are justifiable 2.58 favourites for Saturday - it's a good song backed up by the Scandie vote. I need to find a bit of value on the W/O Norway and place markets.

Forgot to bet, bugger.

Have to question why the UK get a bye straight into the final, recent songs have hardly earned that right but I know that isn't the only criteria.

germany, france, spain and uk automatically qualify because we pay for most of the contest

How the Netherlands didn't go through I'll never know..3 guys in shiny sparkly outfits and backing singers with big blonde wigs singing a song about how the world should be a better place.

Rigged IMO!

If the big four countries aren't in the final, viewing figures plummet in those countries, who will lose interest and may stop showing it, therefore will stop paying for it. Eurovision can't let that happen.

Purely for trade back purposes I've had a major chunk on Iceland throughout the day at an average price of around 31.
There's NO way the price won't come into the low 20s at least after the performance imo. That's when I'll be getting out for one of those nice green book things.
That'll set things up nicely for the voting IR.

don't worry, you won't bubble...UK won't be close to the top 4.

Neither will anything I've backed though :(

Just my girlfriends Azerbaijan top 4 bet left now.

I wasn't a fan.

I didn't need him heckling the folk music/Tatu comedy skit by giving away the punchline before the natural reveal. Let us decide for ourselves if it works or not, obv it won't if you're giving your condescending prattle on top of it.

If the mission is to convince Europe that we're taking it seriously, how does Graham Norton help?

As for the "can we stay in the top 5" thing with 4 countries still to vote and we're 50 points clear and so a mathematical lock. Get a cloooooo
