Title: PC Help Required.
Post by: Nem on December 01, 2005, 03:25:22 PM
I have just bought a new Laptop, and I want to transfer my favourites from my old comp to my new one.

Does anyone know how to do this, without inputting each favourite individually.

Thanks in advance

Be Lucky!

That's pretty much it Robert, assuming your browser is IE.

Actually it's a folder rather than a file. Have a look at it and you can see what I mean. I would siggest using a disc or memory stick. I have found Outlook Express doesn't like you trying to send folders and you end up having to select each entry individually.

you could always winzip all the files into one and then email it if your email prog doesnt like folders

The very best way is to hook the 2 up as a network and use the "files and settings transfer wizard", then your new lappy 'becomes' your old one. (saves a lot of messing around).

Windows XP has a feature which will "package up" all the user specific stuff on a PC into a neat bundle, which you can burn to cd/memory stick, and then unbudle it at the other end.

I cant for the life of me remember what it is called though....

hmmm, if they are both connected to the router it should be ok............
there is a networking trouble shooter you can look at, have a look in "my network connections" (control panel or start menu).
Alternatively if the "file and transfer wizard" won't work you can create a folder on the desktop of the old puter>rightclick>properties>sharing tab>share this folder on a network.
You can then drag and drop files into it and out on the new puter (may need a reboot if it doesn't appear on new puter network places.

Are you using IE?

If you are .. in IE, go to File > Import and Export, and follow the instructions.....save the file, send it over via email/usb doodah...

On new lappy, File>Import and Export, follow the instructions.

You men make everything sooo complicated.

Ahhh but i was referring to moving everything or anything in one swift move.
He can burn 50 cd's of stuff he's collected over the life of his old puter or link 'em and do it in an hour :)
