Post by: vinni on December 02, 2005, 04:10:53 AM
turned up in newcastle to be met by a  geordy with a beard ,he was waiting for two freinds ov mine whom iv started traveling about with ,after  going to the casino i was told by one of the locals to beware and dont lend him money,{which i already knew about ,after my two friends  turned up this man who is well known preceded to tell them he had bought them in to the main event ,to which i thought was unusual ,as there where only 5 bought in for it .i smelled a rat and soon as he left the room i rang the casino up who promply told me they had not been in . iwent straight down  to the casino and promply got the money back, only to be told he had done same to another f reind ov mine ,to pay these others back.i know this is a bit blunt but anyone who knows me knows how i am .this sort ov thing is sad  .

Hi all. Thought I should reply to this post as I am the bearded Geordie refered to and I am not ashamed to be named as I have done nothing wrong. I had asked a friend of mine to to but four people into the main event at Newcastle the night before with some money he had on him belonging to myself. I had no reason to believe that this had not been done until I arrived at the casino on th night of the first game. Once it was established that they had not been bought in the money was returned.

I would like to point out that the total time lapse between being given the money and returning it was approximately 20 minutes. Also, the actual people involoved had no problem with this what so ever after speaking to them to explain what had happened and returning their money, as it was clear there had been a mistake. Instead of obtaining the facts and resolving the issue in a civil manner, the person making the acusations thought it would be best to shout and threaten me in front of the rest of the casino and has now decided to also slander me to the rest of the poker world.

Lastly, it seems obvious to all apart from Vinni that if you are wanting to rip someone off in the way that he is suggesting, it is not a sensible idea to turn up at the casino where the people who have given you the money will be only 20 minutes after they give it to you - especially as it will be very obvious at some point whether people are registered or not.

I have no problem admiting that my personal cash flow has seen better days as most of my friends know.  I have borrowed money, and lent money regularly on the poker circuit as most people do but I am not aware of anyone in Newcastle or elsewhere that would question my integrity - if I am wrong in this then I am happy to speak to anyone who thinks otherwise.

This is the only post I will send on this matter as I do not intend to engage in any sort of slanging match. I hope this clarifies the situation. If anyone would like to speak to me about this personally then I will be happy to reply.

Thanks,

George

For players who travel to events and wish to buy-in ahead of time to book their seat, it'd be cool if casinos/card rooms could take payment over the phone to avoid any of these 3rd party shennanigans. In this information technology age this could easily be possible and it would help eliminate this kind of hassle.

Steady on guys, hold your horses.

I know who Harlequin is, but I am not at liberty to divulge his name.

But I can tell you this.

He IS a much respected individual, & he's as straight as a die. He is vey well known on the circuit, & much respected.

I would not have a prob loaning this guy money, nor would many others, including Dave.

I have no knowledge whatsoever of the circumstances Vinni mentions, & no real interest either. But I suspect there is some sort of misunderstanding here.

We need to be very careful when making such accusations.

Discuss this all you like, but please be careful, I DO think there is some sort of misunderstanding going off here. And remember that Harlequin says he will not get involved in a slanging match.

If the debate gets to the "potentially slanderous" point, we will Edit as we see fit. We cannot accuse peeps of malpractice willy nilly.

Sounds like Harlequin had been down the bookies with your buy-ins vinni. His "I asked a friend to do it" excuse sounds, to me, a little like "the dog ate my homework". Good job his horse came in, else you'd be in a right wee situation.

Yup, makes a lot of sense......BUT - I believe Gaming Commission Rules prevent this.

Vinni - I stand by my Post, & I did remind everyone that Harlequin has made it clear that he will not get involved in an online slanging match, so your latest Post does not really help matters much. I am likely to be at Newcastle tomorrow, & am happy to discuss the matter there, with either or both of you.

Harlequin has rung me, & given his version of events. You have given yours. That's all I know.

In the meantime, I remind everyone - keep it civil - and legal - please. blonde can do without being sued!

Try running a Forum Vinni. You'd be AMAZED at the corners it gets you into!

Good man. It's AWFUL to get caught between 2 mates.

Must be like having 2 children, & they squabble.

I'll be up there around 6pm.

Perhaps I shouldn't have stuck my oar in. I know nothing about the situation, or the people involved, and it has nothing to so with me anyway. For that reason I've censored myself by editing my original post on the subject.

No prob tank. I'm "acquainted" with both parties, & had their sides of the story, both on here, & by phone.

But I'd already heard the whole story last night, before it ever got posted on blonde, from a third party. So I when I suggested folks be careful, I was saying it for a reason.
