Title: QQ late mtt
Post by: Graham C on June 04, 2009, 04:41:44 PM
Don't have the HH anymore but this is bugging me.

Late comp, a few off the bubble of a 2k runner tourney.  Blinds are fairly high, can't remember what but it's not that important. I think they were 800/1600/ante.  We have 46k.  Average was around 30k I think.  Basically we're in great shape at the moment, winning this hand puts us 2nd in chips, but losing puts us in below average.

Folds to cut off who shoves for 16k (he's quite short and it was expected) To my surprise the button shoves too for 26k.   He's not played a hand for ages and has been waiting for a spot.  I'm in the small blind with QQ and was looking forward to someone shoving, but the button shoving too I didn't expect.    I didn't think he's doing this lightly as a) he's not played much at all, very tight player, b) we're close to the bubble so pointless playing tight to now then lumping in with rubbish and c) we're going to see his hand anyway.

Is QQ ok to fold here or are we simply not passing at this stage?

Put the blinds in OP.

I'm never ever passing here. Even a tight player is shoving 77/88/99/1010/JJ/AQ/AK vs a cut off jam here so folding QQ would be silly, especially as we should be playing to win the tournament not waiting for the bubble to burst.

Ok sometimes he shows up with AA/KK here but you can't do anything but re-jam imo.

if the tightest of tight players calls/over shoves I have no problem with folding here..I reckon you're behind often enough to justify that against  tighty mctighttight.

If you are playing to win shove. Tight player knows the short stack has a wide range so should be callinig lighter. What did you do and what happened?

+1 folding is burning money.

The shove from the tight player really was unexpected.  He could have done this before now but hadn't played a single hand for ages so I put him on something decent that I could have been ahead of but AK at least.   I did end up folding and was shown AJ (shorty) and AK (tight player).

Rather annoyingly the QQ would have won the pot.  Next time, I'll get them in and quit fussing.     I'm losing my nittyness slowly!

You can muck Jacks in this spot, but Queens are just too strong, ship it in!

(answer would have been the same pre-reveal!)

Applying this theory, but to Jacks. So much less likely to scoop both pots with JJ which is something to consider?

Not saying it's a definite fold with JJ, but if that had been the OP I wouldn't have had a problem with it. If Silo passed QQ then I'm not rating JJ that highly here...

Perfect explanation for the re jam.

Another reason is your stack size. You've got 46k now and there's about 45k in the middle.

If you call and win you're on 91k and in with a great chance of taking the tournament down.

If you lose you're still on 20k and in certainly not in a desperate situation.

Upside 91k, downside 20k. QQ can never be a pass in this situation.

3/1 looks huge considering the massive age diff

I might be older than him but my ridiculous raw physical power and ridiculously amazing fighting techniques won't help him.

On reflection, this post is ftw imo..  I've been trying to pursude myself that my reasoning was ok but the fact that's it's a rejam doesn't suggest that I'm a million miles behind.   Hopefully have learned from this

£bankroll (small) on Matt in the fight please :D

why would u ever consider folding? you know the purpose of an MTT is to win all the chips and in this scenario you have most of the time been given two player's full stacks - one hand in the air rejam and keep your hand in the air till  all the mad dimez are passed to your stack yo
