Title: McGhee to Dons Post by: fatshaft on June 06, 2009, 11:55:51 PM Quality IMO, and first choice of most Dons fans
http://www.sundayherald.com/sport/shfootball/display.var.2512911.0.mcghee_to_be_named_aberdeen_manager.php Quote McGhee to be named Aberdeen manager EXCLUSIVE: By Michael Grant MARK MCGHEE will sign a two year contract and be unveiled as the new manager of Aberdeen in midweek. The former Pittodrie striker will complete the move north once compensation has been agreed with Motherwell, who are entitled to around £200,000. McGhee will take assistant manager Scott Leitch with him and intends to make Motherwell midfielder Stephen Hughes, who is now out of contract, his first signing. Scotland striker David Clarkson is another who could be targeted although he would cost around £300,000 and Aberdeen's budget is tight. Aberdeen moved quickly yesterday after Celtic let McGhee know that despite widespread speculation he would not be offered the chance to replace Gordon Strachan. Aberdeen had been waiting for clarity on the Celtic situation and as soon as they had that their chairman, Stewart Milne, approached his Motherwell counterpart, John Boyle, and asked for permission to speak to McGhee. That was granted and McGhee held talks with Aberdeen director of football Willie Miller, his former team-mate......................... Title: Re: McGhee to Dons Post by: Maxriddles on June 07, 2009, 09:49:21 AM no bad no bad Good appointment for the Dons, I do fear for Motherwell a bit now though. Title: Re: McGhee to Dons Post by: rossfourfive on June 07, 2009, 03:15:42 PM Not 100% sure about him but hopefully he'll do a good job. Would take Clarkson definitely, maybe then we can finally punt Mackie to a pub team. Can't see us stumping up the 300k though.
Title: Re: McGhee to Dons Post by: Teacake on June 07, 2009, 08:07:06 PM Looks like a good fit, Aberdeen should improve under him.

good luck to mcghee and the dons for next season. Title: Re: McGhee to Dons Post by: fatshaft on June 13, 2009, 08:29:46 AM [ ] celtic are better at getting a new manager than aberdeen I have it on very good authority that McGhee was never a choice for the Celtic board, but a scare candidate to make the fans happier with what they saw as not particularly exciting prospects in Mowbray, Coyle & Martinez.good luck to mcghee and the dons for next season. Persoanlly I think they are wrong, and your team may have made a big mistake, McGhee was the majority favourite choice among Dons fans, and bya long way my first choice. Time will tell, but beware of a football manager scorned :)up Title: Re: McGhee to Dons Post by: Teacake on June 13, 2009, 09:12:30 AM [ ] celtic are better at getting a new manager than aberdeen I have it on very good authority good luck to mcghee and the dons for next season. lol at how many times I've heard this in the last 3 weeks, everybodys got a source apparently! Yep my mum's sister's husband's brother is friends with the Aberdeen board so i knew about this weeks ago. Hope McGhee does a good job but if he has a good season and Mowbray bottles everything at Celtic i can see McGhee buggering off to Celtic at the end of this season as his loyalty hasn't exactly been commendable in the past. Gl to him though. Absolute shambles. I can't wait for first division football next season. Title: Re: McGhee to Dons Post by: Snowball on February 27, 2010, 11:10:25 PM Still happy you drove Calderwood out of Pittodrie?? Similiar with Strachan at Celtic, Calderwood was the problem and the one who has left McGhee with these poor players.Absolute shambles. I can't wait for first division football next season. Both Mowbray and McGhee should be given till at least Christmas. Title: Re: McGhee to Dons Post by: fatshaft on February 28, 2010, 07:08:36 PM Still happy you drove Calderwood out of Pittodrie?? McGhee has been left with no budget, and has had to carry the shite Tango lumbered him with due to long term contracts. Luckily we got shot of Miller for a ridculous fee. Mcghee needs to get through ther summer window and build his own team. Mcghee has almost replicated the cup failures already and there's no chance of getting anywhere near the European places. Calderwood finished 4th last season with this exact team aprt from Severin. Let's go through some of the memories Tango gave us...... "We can never challenge the old firm" "We plan to make the top 6 every season, that's our target" "I still don't understand why I was sacked" ;booder; "Living in the past" "Fans think we should be winning the league and going far in Europe" "can't escape the shadow of Fergie" "All too soft, two cars in every drive...." "Keyboard warriors" "Big Walter, Big Ally, Big Kris" "My mate Hiidink/Ruud/Jol etc...." Singing Dung, Kerr, Wright, Casper, Bossu, Duff, letting go Anderson, McNaughton, Nicholson, Hart for pennies or nothing at all due to his inability to get contract talks started in time. Did you see the guy on SSN yesterday, he was the OF pundit. 'So tell us Jimmy, what's happening' - Tango stares blankly at screen, prompt from presenter 'aye, goal, aye' blank stare, 'so what do you think Jimmy, take us through the goal - more staring blankly at screen. The guy was mediocre, and thought mediiocre and having the ambition to be in the top 6 was good enough year after year. We are not Dunfermline, we are the third team in Scotland. Don't get me wrong, I actually met him in Madrid, when the team were visiting the Bernabeau lunchtime on matchday, and he was a very decent and approachable bloke, and his stint on Goals on Sunday showed that he actually gave a damn about the team, it was a pity that when he was actually in the jobhe did everything to alienate as many fans as possible. The avalanche of support McGhee received last week showed where most fans feelings lie, and where they are laying blame. Mainly at the players feet, and certainly many are also blaming Milne for his lack of investment, some also pointing fingers at God too. Title: Re: McGhee to Dons Post by: Rod Paradise on March 01, 2010, 03:00:18 PM Aberdeen WERE the 3rd team in Scotland (and for a fair bit of that time were first I admit) - but the support from the Fergie days are long gone - the empty spaces in EVERY game testify to that.

Mainly at the players feet, and certainly many are also blaming Milne for his lack of investment, some also pointing fingers at God too. He was being realistic. With the money in football now, there is no way we can consistently be the third best team in Scotland. There is also no way he could've got Anderson to stay when Sunderland were offering £1m. It was Miller's job to starting contract talks - if that's not his job what is he actually being paid to do?! I'm absolutely behind McGhee but I fail to see how the farce that has happened this season is any different to Calderwood's last season when it is essentially the same team. I agree that Milne has to shoulder some of the blame for not investing but to be fair to him he has said if anyone wants to take them off his hands he wont stand in their way. He's only pissing money away investing in Aberdeen cause there's no chance he'll see any sort of return on it. What happened in the 80s isn't coming back any time soon and the sooner Dons fans accept that, the better. Otherwise we'll be back to firing managers every season because they're not meeting fans' expectations. With the money in football now, there is no way we can consistently be the third best team in Scotland. Why not? As you say, with the money in Scotland, it is there for the taking, and with the way the Old Firm are now also struggling for cash, the gap to the top two has even lessened as Hibs are showing this season. There is also no way he could've got Anderson to stay when Sunderland were offering £1m. It was Miller's job to starting contract talks - if that's not his job what is he actually being paid to do?! It may not have been Calderwood's fault entirely, but to snap Sunderland's hand off at the first offer, when Keane was pishing money away left right and centre was terrible busniess, as werew Jimmy's comments as the season ended that there was no way we'd keep Ando over the Summer. Aye Jimmy, way to push the price up you twat.I'm absolutely behind McGhee but I fail to see how the farce that has happened this season is any different to Calderwood's last season when it is essentially the same team. Indeed, the team Calderwood built, less a number of players who have left over the summer.I agree that Milne has to shoulder some of the blame for not investing but to be fair to him he has said if anyone wants to take them off his hands he wont stand in their way. He's only pissing money away investing in Aberdeen cause there's no chance he'll see any sort of return on it. Don't disagree at all, but he has to see the club is dying for just a little cash. What happened in the 80s isn't coming back any time soon and the sooner Dons fans accept that, the better. Otherwise we'll be back to firing managers every season because they're not meeting fans' expectations. I havn't read of a single fan, or know one who expects a return to the 80s, that is a fiugment of the Weegia's mind. As indeed is firing them because they don;t meet fans expectations. Chris Crighton slaughtered Chick on your call this weekend when he came out with that. Crighton challenged him to name the managers, and what they were sacked for, "erm, well, eh, ahem". Alex Miller was fucking dreadful, Dodds + £400k for Winters, beem me up. Alex Smith, deserved sacking that day in May for his pitiful tactics, was shown up once Jocky resigned in disgust. Ebbe, even in the dire days, the fans weren't against him. Calderwood, given support until one too many cup defeats against lower league pish.We are now in our longest trophyless spell ever, we've been in one cup final this century. All we are asking for is to get there when handed piss easy cup runs like when we exited against QotS & the Pars. And a manager who doesn't think there's a trophy for finishing in this false achievement of top 6. Anyway, if there's any doubt where the blame lies, read this...http://www.afc-chat.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=28915&st=0 |
