Title: When will I know if I'm a winning player? Post by: EvilPie on June 12, 2009, 03:08:52 PM I've just recently decided to try to make some proper money out of online poker. I've been playing for 18 months now and believe that I have a pretty good grasp of the game and have a chance of making some money.
My problem has always been that I am very spewey when I win anything. If I load up for £500 and build it up to £1500 I'll just hop on to a 5/10 table and end up blowing it all in a couple of hours. I understand that this is a very bad idea so have come up with a plan. The plan is that I'm now enrolled on the SAS program trial. This means that I have to stay at a set level, I've chosen 0.5/1 omaha btw. I now have a goal that so far is keeping me focused. Because I'm taking this seriously I have purchased omaha manager to track my hands. Over my first few sessions which have added up to about 1000 hands I have made $400 profit which is very nice and encouraging. My question is how many hands do I need to have played before I can confidently say that I am a winning player at this particular level? Obviously 1000 is nowhere near enough but do I need 10000, 20000 or maybe more? As the SAS trial is for 6000 hands I'd guessed that this was a good indicator but having seen how quickly I can play 1000 hands I'm now not so sure. Any thoughts would be very welcome. Players who are winners over hundreds of thousands of hands can have 30k stretches where they are a loser. Title: Re: When will I know if I'm a winning player? Post by: GreekStein on June 12, 2009, 03:19:02 PM I'd say you probably know right now after only 1k hands that you are a winner but anywhere over 20k hands will give you the best indication of the most important factor, the rate you are beating the games at.
You'll batter the omaha on blonde, ipoker is sick soft. Title: Re: When will I know if I'm a winning player? Post by: StuartHopkin on June 12, 2009, 04:47:37 PM You will know as soon as soon as you view the tickbox below

Post by: #1Instigator on June 12, 2009, 05:40:05 PM omaha has so pretty big swings so more hands are needed than usual. a couple of online cash games pros i know normally use 100k hands as a guide to whether they are beating the current game. Since some of them play upto 15 tables, they would normally complete this test within a month or a slightly longer 3 months period. gl matt
