Title: Murray in Queens Final
Post by: Rod Paradise on June 14, 2009, 02:08:56 PM
Pissed every game so far - then gone to the training courts because the matches haven't been long enough.

Sounding good & the boy's on form.

I did like the commentator on Eurosport suggesting the crowd would support James Blake as one of his parents are English & Murray's a Scot. ;D

Big fave to win this about 1/7 with the bookies best price. Good signs for Wimbledon but Roger and Rafa will be playing that.

Don't know who the assistant commentator is but he's seething :D - Murray gets the benefit of a net cord - "Scots player, Scots sponsor & looks like a Scots net".

Then at the end we get "well Tim Henman could raise his game as well" - When?

Made the watching even more fun mind you.

Rejoice in victory. No need to involve Tiger Tim

Tim Henman was the third best player in the world for at least 3 years. If Sampras hadn't been around he would have won Wimbedon and maybe a US Open/Aussie Open.

Tremendous tennis player, end of story.

Tim Henman highest ATP ranking was  4, he was a good player but he is not Murray's equal on any surface (might be close on grass).

Agreed. Murray is becoming awesome. Got a huge frame now and has power Henman never had. Shame he's the same generation as Nadal really!

This.

Henman was good but Murray is better and it isn't even close IMO.

Just for the record i didn't suggest that i thought Henman was better than Murray, Its a bit obvious Murray is the better player who I'm sure will win many slams, just dont like to see Henman getting treated as if he was a journey man or something.

So therefore you wouldn't be in the top 3 at any point in your career, this was my point.

I haven't got anything against Henman he was a good solid Tennis player who made the most of his talent. Henman seems to strike polar opposite opinions due to his support in England (especially during Wimbledon), either people think he was the best thing to happen to British tennis or someone who never one anything in a long career. The truth of course is somewhere in between and the fact we now have a better Scottish player this has led to comparisons with Henman, meaning Scots got ridic uppity about any comparison with Henman and then the English people got all defensive about Henman.

wow how often did samprass beat henman at wimbledon

i can only remember 1 match but there could of been more

wow they met at wimbledon 3 times

95 when henman got a wild card into the main event and got beat in round 2
dont think he would of won that year

then 98 and 99 both in the quarters

so for the rest of his tennis playing years he didnt have samprass to worry about cause he never got that far

henman didnt have what it takes to beat the best consistantly and didnt have the bottle to win a slam

Well I'm Scottish, so no doubt biased, but I think I balance that with a total lack of bothered about tennis, like most Scots in fact.

Nevertheless even now Murray is clearly a much much better player than Henman ever was, 12 wins to Henman's 11. His win rate is also much better, Henamn making and losing another 17 finals, Murray has only lost 6.

WOW - I didn't expect that to be taken as a crack at Henman, I was having a pop at the commentator trying to 'even things out' as the uppity Jock had just gone further than Henman had.

Personally I wasn't a huge fan of Henman, he has a decent player although never as good as the hype, he got a nice guy rep without ever really showing a nice guy personna on the court either.

Add that to to stick that Murray takes over his behaviour... it's not Henman I dislike it's the old double standard between the toff's behaviour & the commoner's.
