Title: US Open Golf Post by: chrisbruce on June 17, 2009, 08:12:31 PM My bets
Laying Woods - a very short price for the US open - he may win but will trade bigger at some stage Mickelson - his wife has cancer and will have other things on his mind. Els - not the player he was and the greens will find him out Harrington - I know he raises his game for the majors, but with several missed cuts this year this is a big ask Garcia - Out of form since his girlfriend dumped him, and then there is his putting Backing Jim Furyk - Straight hitter and in form Zach Johnson - see above good luck whomever takes your fancy Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: fatshaft on June 17, 2009, 08:32:41 PM Hugely fancied Furyk this week, in form and plays the US well, however it is playing monstrously long, there has been a ton of rain and it is set to continue, Furyk has very little chance imo, and has been very negative on his chances on US TV.
I'm going to plump for Casey, long hitter, also in form, hopefully a bit of British weather will do him no harm, and he's due one possibly. Andres Romero as a big outside punt. Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: Alverton on June 17, 2009, 08:56:03 PM I can't see Tiger losing, but i agree with you better value at some other stage within tourney.
Furyk, and Ogilvy being the close to him. And some value e/w - KJ Choi, (always consistent 110/1) JB Homles (hits it a mile 200/1) Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: Karabiner on June 17, 2009, 10:11:25 PM Tiger looks absolutely nailed-on for this (he won here last time -3 and second was +2) but I cannot take the 2/1.
As is my usual modus operandum I've sorted out a few value outsiders which may raise a few eyebrows :o Thomas Levet @ 360 (he's had a great season and is a wonderful putter). Andres Romero @ 340 (he's been very unpredictable this year but is hugely long and putts like an angel). Raphael Jaquelin @ 860 ( huge price for a decent player and couldn't resist an apple to win £17k) Ian Poulter @ 110 ( ;kev;) Angel Cabrera @ 90 ( I think he just is able to raise his game for the majors these days and he's done me a couple of favours). Brian Gay @ 85 ( he played wonderfully well last week and may just still be in the zone). Good Luck ! Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: Colchester Kev on June 17, 2009, 10:14:11 PM [ ] GL Poults
Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: Graham C on June 18, 2009, 12:32:10 AM McIlroy may do ok here, big ask, but he's a fairly big hitter so could be ok, may take 75.0 and hope to trade off later on
Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: neildawson on June 18, 2009, 12:39:53 PM I got my main pick Poulter at 90/1 and, as I had £4 on my SkyBet account, I threw £2 on Casey at 25/1 and £2 on KJ Choi at 125/1.
My wife picked her faves, Harrington at 50/1 and Villegas at 60/1. WillHill offering the best odds on 26 of the top 30 players so dep'd there yesterday. Bonkers odds on Cabrera so I stuck a couple of quid on him EW too. It's a monster course and I think it'll be damage limitation again (typical US Open). I think it's gonna be about who's best at hitting 5 woods / rescue clubs / long irons into par4s. Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: Matt50 on June 18, 2009, 12:43:42 PM A Kim @ 120

Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: ACE2M on June 18, 2009, 06:42:49 PM if your backing woods you may as well back ogilvy for top aussie at 13/10, pinching money.
Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: chrisbruce on June 18, 2009, 07:12:21 PM No more golf today.....sigh
Bloody rain Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: kukushkin88 on June 19, 2009, 02:24:11 AM £660 on Woods at a little worse than 11/4. I expect him to win., i've inly had two bets. my only other bet is Furyk (small)
Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: bigusdikus on June 19, 2009, 09:47:10 AM for what its worth, i backed tiger. gonna have a touch e/w on harrington. he's out of form but loves the big one's

A lot of those playing this afternoon will play as many as 36 holes in good conditions as they are the late/early starters whereas most of those who started early yesterday will be playing/completing their second rounds tomorrow in weather that the forecasters say will be wet and horrible again. Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: Longy on June 19, 2009, 07:13:06 PM The draw could have a huge bearing on this. A lot of those playing this afternoon will play as many as 36 holes in good conditions as they are the late/early starters whereas most of those who started early yesterday will be playing/completing their second rounds tomorrow in weather that the forecasters say will be wet and horrible again. In this kind of situation wouldn't it make sense to send out the early starters first again for their 2nd round, given surely the whole point of this system is to so everyone get a morning and afternoon start. Whereas now we have people with two morning starts and other playing 36 holes in a day. It just doesn't work that way, the draw has been made and after that if there is a delay the order of play is unaffected, well kind of if you see what I mean. If you have an late/early draw you still go off early for the second round whenever it happens to start. Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: seven2unsuited on June 19, 2009, 08:09:45 PM Got bets on Villegas at 60's and Gay at 80's.
Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: ad010 on June 19, 2009, 11:48:30 PM was going to put a lump on tiger (could,nt see past him even at that price) but thought i,d hold off for 1st round and maybe get a better price, but wtf the bookies must have lost a fortune on him,at the time of posting this he,s 10 shots behing the leader weir and 2nd fav at 11/2 (best price) weir 5/1.
Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: ACE2M on June 20, 2009, 10:34:09 AM the weather has entirely screwed my bets, everyone i needed to do well went out in the rain and vice versa. Apart from tiger as my roundly mocked 'tiger not to win a major in 2009' bet has a good chance of surviving.
Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: kukushkin88 on June 20, 2009, 11:02:48 AM Tiger can't really blame the weather for where he is, he shot 4 over for 5 holes in the best of the conditions yesterday. I can't see him pulling this back. I will be lumping on him to win our Open though.
Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: TightEnd on June 20, 2009, 08:23:19 PM Hasn't Westwood done well?
-2 from the wrong side of the draw they reckon the weather/luck of the draw accounts for a five shot swing depending which half you are in v tricky punting conditions Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: Graham C on June 20, 2009, 10:52:02 PM Westwood has done pretty good the last few majors. Only just missed out on this event last year. Hoping he wins a big one before he retires.

Hoping he wins a big one before he retires. +1. I would love to see him have a good run here. Title: Re: US Open Golf Post by: Alverton on June 21, 2009, 01:43:12 AM Tiger can't really blame the weather for where he is, he shot 4 over for 5 holes in the best of the conditions yesterday.
