Title: Parameters of a bet. Help wanted.
Post by: Irishimi on June 21, 2009, 11:16:45 PM
I feel like I am playing bad/ running bad blah blah blah, so am thinking of an enforced exile from live poker at my local casinos in Newcastle. To make it interesting/potentially profitable I am thinking of taking bets on whether I can last a certain period of time.

What I want help on is how long the break should be? What is a decent amount of time to have a good break and make it worthwhile to place bets on. Also should I be allowed in casinos? I don't do table games but if I go in to see mates, is that ok? Plus if I go in, I might be tempted to play, which would be good for ppl betting against me. Is there anything else I need to think about?

I am going to propose it on my local forum, as I know a lot of the lads on there, so feel confident to bet with. If anyone on here wants some action, let me know, but as I don't really know anyone personally, I don't expect any. However I will accommodate if I can. However, any help and opinion would be appreciated.

Cheers in advance,

Imi

Is this not something of a contradiction? You want to not gamble for a period of time, and are looking to have a bet on your ability to accomplish this.

Ignoring for a moment the inherent degeneracy that such an undertaking is symptimatic of. I'd say anything between 2-4 weeks sounds about right.

Going into the casino shouldn't be a prob for the bet. For your sake though, to get the most out of the break try to stay away while you're on the hiatus. Distract yourself with other shit, Ideally by the end you'll be able to go from sun up to sun down without thinking about poker once.
You don't want to spend your break hanging around the rail listening to bad beat storys do you?

It's not that I want to stop gambling, just stop playing live poker

Reminds me of Dumb and Dumber. Lloyd bets that he can make Harry gamble by the end of the day, Harry takes that bet and Lloyd is left to ponder how he will go about getting Harry to gambolll !

the one main parameter of the bet you have not talked about is the odds on offer. that combined with the length of the enforced holiday gives you the complete picture. without either then it is meaningless.
