Title: tennis coaching rules
Post by: George2Loose on June 22, 2009, 07:35:53 PM
Anyone know why tennis coaches aren't allowed to coach during the match?

I'm obviously not talking about shouting from the technical area like a footie game but in any other sports I can think of a coach can influence a game during the match.

In footie you get half time and instructions from the bench during the game

In US sports you get time outs.

Boxing during in between rounds.

I think its a great rule, why should you have to beat your opponent and their coach?

so should they ban all coaching in other sports?

Once players are out on the footie field managers watch from the green room? No time outs? No boxing coaching in between rounds?

I think team games are different, it's good to bring them together at certain times.  I think individual sports shouldn't have the coaches though.  Not sure about boxing though, seems to make sense for safety reasons.

You are looking at this from the wrong perspective.

Imagine inventing a sport, your thoughts are not going to be :-

player A vs player B, but they can ask for help / advice part way through the game is it?

Coaching should be to prepare you for a game.

The women are actually allowed to bring their coach to sit next to the once per set I believe now.

Different game as most of these women players only have one game plan and tactially shocking.

You my mate talking about women golfers, apparently they have absolutely no understanding of match tactics.
