Title: Tens UTG
Post by: TheDLee on June 27, 2009, 03:35:39 PM
Had this scenario last night at DTD, just this is more of a "What would you do?" rather than a "What do you think of what I did?" post...

DTD £75 freezout, 18 left and only top 5 paid
Blinds 300/600/50 Average stack 13k, I have 5k

UTG dealt  Tc  Td

What do you do and why?

Less than 10BB at this stage of game you need to get a stack to challenge with! This is a clear push to me!

Anything other than a shove would be terrible

Jam pre

1350 in the pot - you have no other play  - hope to get called by 55-99  <AT  or AJ-AK and hold

I fully Agee - I was just interested to see if anyone could put forward an argument for folding or standard raising

Easy fold, why would you want to see a board out of position when you could get  Kc Qh next hand?

I had a similar situation last night when I just started to get short and was planning to shove anything decent but found TT. As I hadn't shoved pre yet I decided to gamble and get some value from what was likely the best hand. I put in a standard raise, hit top set and got paid.

I think the shove is standard but you could raise hoping to get all the chips in here which is a more dangerous line I know. We are still a good bit off the money though and might not see a better hand for a while.

Raising 2k out of 5k from UTG looks stronger than pushing thou

Generally I agree. I was at a table with bad players in a live sunday afternoon game tho who were regularly making standard raises or limping with 10BB and less.

The standard at the final table was much better and I shove here all day long against those players.

right up to till the point that u get called from the BB and the board runs AKQ - then its not so clever

You get called by worse many times in this spot because shoving widens your range.

I know what u are saying in terms of looking strong - but i would peel in the BB with any 2 broadway cards and if my stack was big enough be prepared to double the guy up if I hit (assuming he has AA which i suppose is what ur suggesting)

I agree raising 2k out of 5k with 10-10 is not clever. It looks strong...but I don't want to look strong...cos I am strong. I think you misunderstood my post. However, raising 2k out of 5k UTG with the 4 and 5 of diamonds is reasonably clever.

1 problem....we have the nuts, we want callers!

shove, will look additionally weak coz ur utg and players will recognise ur jamming super wide b4 the blinds pass through you.

There are still players out there who will see a shove as being stronger than a standard raise. If villain is one of those players then standard raise. If villain will see a standard raise as being stronger then shove.

Surely we don't want to look strong here? Push and hope to get a call and take the race to double up, if no callers, we add almost 25% to our stack!!!

This. We're likely to pick up AA within the next couple of orbits, putting us in much better shape than with TT.

SHOVE

with less than 10bbs no other option for me

If everyone folds there is a good % of your stack already in the pot - ideal

If you get called only 4 hands you really dont want to see, all the rest you've got crushed or your flipping with at worst, id rather flip with this stack size at this stage than blind out or face getting it in with worse & less bbs later on

For the nits/fish who dont shove here what exactly is your range? Such an easy autocall. Also I'm guessing the majority of players who fold here are live players?

if I were to make a list of things that astonish and amaze me then the fact that this hand is still being discussed after 3 weeks would be at number 1

Limp utg and fold any flop with an ace or picture.
