Title: Vegas 2009
Post by: Marky147 on June 30, 2009, 06:18:42 PM
I don't really post much on forums which is probably reflective of my lack of progression in online poker  :)

A few people will know me and a lot won't so I suppose an introduction would be a good idea. I until recently was playing full time grinding it out online but found it increasingly hard due to a) my laziness b) everyone else getting good as they didn't suffer from point a lol

I've recently been diagnosed with MS and on recommendation of the doctor took a part time job to relieve myself of the stress involved with playing full time. I have to say it's the best thing I have ever done. Enough of that anyway,  this is getting a bit fking emo

Long story short I was staying at Flushy's over easter to play the Ladbroke's sponsored £500 with 5 Vegas packages added and I binked one of the packages and asked Flushy if he wanted another live horse to which he agreed. I'm going to be playing 4 comps out here for him at the Venetian and hopefully won't come back to England in makeup!!

You'll have to forgive me if the reports are a bag of shit as I have never been known for my written exploits and haven't written reports since I was in the Navy. Feel free to advise/flame accordingly

No Poker Content in this post, also I am posting this on another forum so will be writing them including some names most people here won't know as they only post on live updates etc so apologies for that .

Well I've now been here almost 2 days and all I have achieved thus far is 2 hangovers and a dent in my wallet, I suppose I should actually play some poker to try and get out of it!

I have to say that the flights over were the best I've ever had, mostly due to the fact that I flew as an assisted passenger due to having some nerve conduction issues in my leg I can't walk long distances as I will most likely trip over.

After explaining to the woman at the check in desk of my problem she said ok we will get you wheeled to the gate, do you think you will need the same the other side? 'no I'm hoping 8 hours at 30,000ft is going to cure and I will land MS free the other side

I have to say assisted flying is the way ahead, I would highly recommend cheating the system. I landed in Washington for my connection and as I approached immigration thought FML I'm going to be here hours, the queue was huge. Much to my amusement the guy wheels me straight around the queue and straight up to one of the border security guys. 2 minutes later and I'm on my way to the next departure gate!!

The next leg was just as smooth and it was quite amusing the looks I got when the guy wheels me up to the baggage collection and I get out of the chair to pick up my suitcase and stroll out of the airport to get a cab

I get to Caesars and use the old trick and slide $50 into my passport as I check in and ask the girl if there are any upgrades. She taps away and says 'I can move you into the Augustus tower on the 42nd floor overlooking the strip' . She then says as she takes my passport 'oh that's so kind of you, there was no need to do that'. I thought no but I wouldn't be on the 42nd floor in an upgraded room if I hadn't would I.

I potter up to the room and start to unpack RIV arrives with Dan79 and Billthebandit. Bill and Dan head down to the cafe whilst Riv and I get sorted. We then head down to meet them and find Banksy, Jagger, Lizard, Phinnies and his lovely wife Tracey who goes someway to balancing out the ugly mugs plotted up around the table

From there it's over to O'Sheas where Nick, Jagger and Lizard are partaking in some 1/2 and in my infinite wisdom after having not really slept for 36hours decide to start pounding Coronas and Morgans spiced and coke!

3 or 4 hours later I'm in Dennys eating some tripe of a breakfast absolutely faced and wondering how I manage to make such retarded decisions time after time!

I will do a day 2 report a bit later on but for now I'm still feeling ing sick coupled with the fact this is the longest piece of writing I have done since I left the Navy and my head is about to asplode!

Day 2

I awake at around 10am I think and am not in a great state to say the least. I mince around on my laptop for a while then jump in the shower which other than slipping up and almost breaking my neck does make me feel a bit better.

I watch Andy Murray in a great game and head over to Palms Place to meet Flushy and Dubai Ste and another guy who's name escapes me because I am not the best at remembering names. after 10minutes outside I'm glad that Flushy decides we should head for shelter as the heat at that time of day is f***ing ridic.

We both order a burger which comes with salad and a choice of cheddar or blue cheese Flushy asks for blue cheese then changes his mind to cheddar I request the burger plain with just salad, the waitress asks 'you want no cheese at all', I confirm this and we are good to go. Or so I think.

15minutes later the food arrives Flushy dives in and I look at mine and lo and behold mine is also laden with cheddar cheese, FML. I then have to watch Flushy eat his food whilst I am left with a glass of coke gg.

It gets rectified and is actually decent and whilst I am paying discuss tipping with Flushy and I would have given nada but she was quite fit so I tipped anyway. Obviously on the angle to ensure a tip even though they messed up my food she starts asking us where we are from etc. Flushy manages to convince her that Brighton is in fact the 'Vegas' of the UK
(FWIW it probably has about the same amount of money there, with Moorman, Flushy and Tony Bloom being residents)

It's then back out to the pool and Joey Love has arrived and they are putting together a plan for a night out whilst reminiscing on previous Vegas trips/nights out. No doubt Dubai has the best tales as most of mine just involve me ending up in ridiculous states and being close to requiring rehab when I got home.
(that's not a joke btw)

I head back to get changed for the Ladbrokes opening party at the Voodoo Lounge and arrange to meet up with Flushy et al at some point during the evening, which obviously doesn't happen as I flake after getting a little carried away at the free bar Ladbrokes have laid on, which probably was a good result as I have the $1k satellite for the m/e in a couple hours and I felt bad enough from 5hours drinking. another 4/5 hours with Dubai and co would have put paid to any hope I had of even making the satellite nevermind binking a seat!

The party was a good crack and I caught up with some old friends and met some new ones who I will no doubt not remember meeting when I see them again later in the trip.

As always I make another dumb decisions and intend going to meet Flushy but flake out on my bed and wake up at about 5am, which on reflection was probably for the best.

I'm going to get a shower and drag myself off to bink a satellite at the Rio.

Report to follow.......

Have fun and gl mate.  Shaun

Cheers Snat and the same to yourself, a beer would be good. I'm here until the 13th so when you are meeting with Tikay etc would be good for me. I'm playing the 3/5/7 and 9th at the Venetian so I have plenty of social time :)

I'll pass on your regards when I see them again, I'm dying in the room at the moment after lack of sleep last few days!

GL at DTD :)

Busted the $1k sat in pretty quick fashion 6k chips and 30min clock meant you had to get a wriggle on. I did so but unfortunately just wriggled the wrong way and busted 2 or so hours in not getting there with a fd v top pair.

I went straight back to the hotel where I have minced around like an animal for the rest of the evening. I managed to get fleeced for $40 for chicken fried rice and bbq pork which is fine if it doesn't taste 1/2 as good as Panda Express!!

FU Noodle no 9 IMO

Hopefully with an early night I will stop feeling like I have swine flu and will probably invest in one of those scootays they have everywhere and go race Doyle for pink slips round the amazon room!

Another sat tomorrow which I would imagine is going to be a sick crapshoot with a $250 buyin or something. If I still feel like this though it's all good, I can just pushbot really early and not stress my head too much thinking  :)

Just got back from the Ladbrokes 2nd Chance satellite at the Hard Rock, I came 4th with 3 $10k packages obv.

Luckily I did a cheeky saver as I and another guy had 5bb, I am now officially out of it and should go home in front now that Flushy has hit the other side of the atlantic.

I'm gonna have to go Gus Hansen at some point in the future as my memory is conveniently permanently hazy, (probs from too much time being interviewed by the plod in my younger days, old habits etc).

I actually had 1.5bb at 1/2k and within 4hands had 38k, I do remember K3>AQ then KJ> AJ aipf flop A47 2clubs, I had king of clubs and sure didn't get there. It got ridic crapshooty with ave stack like 10bb and 4handed we did a deal which ensured that I and the other short stack who had 5bb so we both carved it up equally.

I now just have to ensure I don't hit the rhino or get rohypnol spiked by a brass like I did in 2006.

I sure expect to get hom ewith some $$

I'm sure gutted I didn't make it to XS com or not, Vegas would have been over for me before it started and 2009 would have turned into Palms Place revisited!

Wednesday evening was the 'Skalie Pub Crawl' I was tied up with the satellite until around 8pm and took the sensible decision to go for dinner on return to Caesars then hit the room. This all went swimmingly until I necked a bottle of wine with dinner and then promptly got showered/changed and headed out with Marios (one of Laddies managers) and Bob (cameraman).

3 or 4 hours of pouring Southern Comfort down my throat wasn't the best preparation for the last Ladbrokes tournament on thursday. I have to say a fantastic night was had by all, with some top quality renditions of musical classics by Norman Pace, Phinnies and others. I think the top job was Skalie's 'Nelly the Elephant' which left the American audience in a state of bemusement/confusion.

I awoke on friday at around 11:30 which should be good for a 1pm start. Unfortunately I spent an hour rolling around in bed like an animal and didn't make it to the comp until 145pm. I then proceeded to call off 3k of my 8k stack in the first hand I played because I seem to develop spastic tendencies when hungover.

A trip to Starbucks seemed to sober me up and again I apologise for the lack of poker content but I just don't have the memory power to recall all the bet/raise/calls etc etc. I do know that I was never all in and called by a bigger stack once. (I sound like fu*king Hellmuth)

Long story short we got to 5 left and the ave was about 12 bigs again, we chopped up the 1 added package 3/3/4 and I as one of the smaller stacks got 3 and the money got chopped too, 5 ways $1300 a piece.

I then headed over to the Venetian to watch Michelin a swedish friend of mine chop the $330 whihc netted him $35k for himself.

It was then back to Caesars again for some dinner and an early night whihc went all to f**k and I ended up punishing my liver for another 7hours and finally getting to bed at 5 this morning. The only real achievement was showing Shane Lynch how to drink like a man.

I am now suffering from head asplosion and trying to muster up the courage to leave the room and go to the Rio and sort out the fiscal aspects of the last two days endeavours. I am struggling though and will prob get absolutely  nada done and have to try and rush sort it out over the weekend before the Ladbrokes guys head home.

I am just hoping I run as well for Flushy as I have thus far, can't see it being a problem as his $$ is golden!

Title: Re: Vegas 2009
Post by: Marky147 on July 04, 2009, 08:33:00 PM
Not much to report from yesterday, I was meant to pick up my money from the Rio at 1030 and obviously I wake up at 11am and then it takes me until around 2pm to raise the courage to rise from my pit.

I make my way over to the Ladbrokes lounge to basically vegetate and sort out the $$. I've sorted some but not all of it but it's prob for the best as the Rhino can't get what I don't have :)

Whilst there people wheel in 2 big tubs of booze and a load of food, I am almost sick in my mouth a little as this is the last thing I need to be smelling/thinking about in my current state.

I try the Caramel Macchiato repair trick which doesn't work so just continue feeling sorry for myself until around 5 when I decide that it might be worth drinking my way out of it.

A couple of beers does nothing to sort me out so around 7 I head back to Caesars and my room with the intention of room service and a couple episodes of Fringe before re-evaluating the evenings plan.

Long story short I still feel like sh1t so decide to have an early one so that I can do some damage to the free bar at the closing party. I see checkout is meant to be by 11am on Monday. I sure will be up, packed and checked out by then. [grin]

Then after this evening it's back to grafting at the Venetian next week. Hopefully I can emulate Mr Trigg's efforts from earlier in the trip!

Not much to report from the last two days other than a couple nights out that were quite com but a bit nsfw.

I'm back to the grind tomorrow at the Venetian for the $500 having picked up funds from Nicky who was going ok in the 300 when I left. I would like to think I will be reporting some shippage in about 48hrs and I will try to remember any interesting hands if poss.

Off to dinner at Craftsteak tonight with Marios (Ladbrokes Mgr), Nick (Akolas) and one of his housemates. I've heard good things from Mr Dempsey so fingers crossed we are in for a good night.

I also intend on being back in the room by 2am at the latest not drunk. I sure have been doing well at this thus far this trip!

Thanks, I have to say I have surprised even myself as I thought my drinking prowess had long since deserted me  ;D

I've jogged the $560 on and instead am now going to be playing the Caesar's Main day 1b, hopefully I will meet Nicky at the final!!

Last night the meal at Craftsteak was one of, if not the best meal I've ever had. We had the $130 Kobe set menu for 5. This included an assortment of appetisers, 5 different cuts of Kobe and a huge number of desserts. We all sure could move afterwards!

Another nice dinner beckons tonight followed by Terry Fator at the Mirage.

Just busted the Caesars m/e at the 6/12 level and would like to say I got raped but it was standard c/o raise to 4200 I 3b from sb with 66 playing 30k to 14200 get set in by AK and lose.

There was one interesting hand which I am still unsure as to the optimal way to play it.

UTG who has been quite active and is playing 100k at 6/12 opens to 3800, I flat with JJ in 2nd pos playing 60k, folds round flop  Ts 7s 7h.

He leads for 6k and I flat(1st mistake?) to evaluate on the turn which is a  4d. UTG now checks and I chk behind (2nd mistake?)

The river is  3s and now he leads for 18k, I think he either has nuts or air here and say so as I pay the money and see TT

Thoughts/abuse welcome :)

I'm sorry there wasn't more poker content in this thread but I was didn't really play a great deal like the other guys who were out here. I believe that Nicky and Tom are still in so hopefully one of them will ship it!

Also good luck to Sunny and Blatch who were still in when I left..
