Money well spent IMO...after all, it's not like you need a passport or anything like that to get into the country in the first place.

do british nationals need id cards to prove that they're not foreign and so don't need an id card?

Ah good point but there's a simple answer.

British people will obviously look British and are therefore easily identifiable..whereas foreigners obv also smell.

Talking of ID, I got asked for ID in B&Q a couple of weeks ago when buying bostick glue...   ;dingdell;
