Title: All options open, interesting spot.
Post by: AlexMartin on July 06, 2009, 04:41:44 PM
Villain is a regular nit, plays like 17/14/2 or something (but capable of some moves), views me as a competent reg who spews a bit. Early in session and no real recent history.

If he is a nit then he likely has 55,88,99,TT,JJ. AK and AQ are possible aswell. I think he bets the full houses on the river and checks behind the hands you are beating so check/fold for me.

Bear in mind I don't play much at these stakes:

bet/fold

If he was trying to steal on the turn I think he'd be reluctant to try on the river seeing as you called his turn bet. He'll prob call you if he has a T. If you were to check then he'd probably check a T behind for showdown. If he raises then I doubt he raises for value with just a T, and you can probably fold safe in the knowledge you're beat.

How many Tens does he have in his range - bearing in mind we have one and one is on the board ? JTs mibbe. If he floated us on the flop he may have just made the backdoor flush. I can't see the value bet being called by much worse on this board given the strength we have shown by calling his turn bet and the scary river card. Check/call - check/fold is close for me.

Is he really Greek?

If so practice game selection and don't play on his tables Alex.

Your line is so weird if you bet the flop, check-call the turn and then bet the river. Although I guess that could be your line with J9, so that might prevent you getting bluff-raised and having to fold.

I dunno then, bet/fold or check/call I guess. Don't really like a check fold with our improvement on the river.

Despite the improvement our hand is just a bluff catcher on this board against a nit who is calling with a very small range from the SB.

edit - just realised villain is button. AT *might* be in his range but not much else.

 ;applause;

Generally i think bet folding is underused alot by people, and check calling is overused.

Having said that, I think the river is a check/call, hoping he has some dumb float which is possible seen as u bet small on the flop.

Also i guess he cud have q9 or something and bet river for value. So in isolation I would check/call river, because every other option sucks worse

WHats wrong with betting the turn ? Check/calling you tell him your hand and get crushed so often i think. This is a style thing though i guess, i just love building big pots cos they are fun  ;D Prob why i lose so much tho  ;frustrated; ;frustrated;

Bet/fold seems fine.

Bet/fold seems fine.

How much do you bet though?

I'm a bit stumped with this hand as (given his stats - not calling many raises) I can't think of a hand we are beating, that calls any substantial bet.

I thought the same doubleup, ie he's not calling with enough hands im vbetting against. Like A10, K10s maybe, but he is on the button, so this is where his range is widest.

FWIW i hate the river coz backdoor clubs got in, J9 made it and his turn bet should have just polarised his range which means i have to play guessing games if i check. I hated life for a brief moment when i checked and he bet $165.

This is really a question of how often he is going to try and win pots using his position given his image and the scary board. If he is weak/tight nit, nittity, nit-tastic then it is a clear fold.

If he is decent it is a very tough call. I doubt folding here is much of a mistake - if at all.
