Title: Minimum raises
Post by: jezza777 on December 04, 2005, 12:57:55 AM
Are these ever a good idea. I almost never ever fold to a minimum raise in any situation.

On the internet some players will fold to any size of raise if they don't have a playable hand. Know who they are and take advantage by stealing their BB with mini-raises instead of 3BB+.

yep tank has hit nail on head if you have a muppet on your table a mini raise is good people will fold to any raise the same people will call any raise with very little

so when playing these type of people bluff with small bets and go all in with the nuts when you have them on a marginal holding or a draw

drives me crackers in the early stages of MTTs when there are several limpers and some goon in the big blind decides to minimum raise...

can't even imagine what may be running through their minds with that move

Early in a tourney opening with minimun raises can be a good tactic if you play a lot of different hands and most importantly you play very well post-flop.  They are also worthwhile employing in near bubble situations when the blind/stack ratio is low.

Off topic I know - but a US guy on poker stars asked me what muppet meant. I really don't know so I said it was an insult because it meant you were a puppet with a mans hand stuck up your bum - was I anywhere near?
