Title: Love or hate my play here?
Post by: RED-DOG on July 18, 2009, 07:04:19 PM
I can't decide.

Equal chance £350 "Triple chance"

22 players remaining, ave stack 93k, I have 68k, blinds are 1500/3000 + 200. Blinds go up in 7 mins.

UTG makes it 8k, I'm next to act and call with pocket 10s. The bloke to my left and the bb also call.

Flop is J Q K two spades. bb checks, original raiser checks, I check, bloke to my left bets 15k.

bb folds, original raiser folds, I push.

Bloke to my left dwells forever......  but calls with A K, I get no help and am out.

Thoughts please.

hate it

perfect rejam stack pre - and thats what you should do  - although the result is the same

As for post flop as played - i wait to catch up - it obv smashes their range and you know you must hit 9 or A to improve

I don't know whether to love it or hate it. You play the tens passively pre-flop by just smoothing UTG to see what develops. Ok...what develops is that you put all your chips into the middle when 3 overcards hit the board. That's quite a switch in aggression imo. Also, I think the FE you have by pushing is reduced a bit in this example. The fact the board is wet, you CRAI, and you are last to act, can easily lead villain to conclude you are on a draw.

Having said that, if villain can bet light in this spot then betting heavy is a good enough response to that. I like that you are trying to make something happen to improve your below average tournament position while you still have the chips to do so.

Unless you know the guy is only opening super tight utg then its a shove for me pre ....I dont like flat calling at all

Hate it tbh...

Shove pre.

I'm not really looking to get all my chips in on this board either, even if I do get them in first.

Don't like it.

For me it's a shove preflop. Already (assuming 7 handed) 13,800 (if my maths is right) in the pot to pick up.  And we may well be happy even if we do get called.

On this flop however I don't like getting the chips in. Unless you've got some real history on the guy who bet here I think you have to give him credit for a good hand. JQK 2 spades - that's a scary board. Your push might work sometimes, but I'm suspecting you're usually going to be called in this spot. When you are called all you have is an OESD. The two tens might be clean outs, but won't always be. And your OESD outs might not even be clean because of the 2 spades.
