I told you all I was out of practice

I've never done this before and probably never do it again but at the Grosvenor on Friday night I folded AA pre-flop. Just to try and clarify I did'nt do it out of fear or not having the bottle to put my chips in, but to try and win the tournament. I know this sounds strange but bear with me, as I can't believe I did it myself.

Here goes: I've just started to get back into live play after a spell off but have been messing around on-line in sit 'n' goes where i've been raped time and time again in the last fortnight with big hands. Anyway I decide to go to Grosvenor as I was informed its the place to be on Fridays as the structure is good with plenty of players making it good value. I arrive half an hour late due to work as usual and sit down at a table where I don't know anyone, I just try and concentrate on the game but i'm playing way to many hands to try and make up for the missing time. My confidence is already low as i'm out of practice but I notice that the standard of play is very good compared to Friday nights in other casino's and nothing is coming off for me and at the break i'm down to about 3k. Sean Mcguiggan and Avkid get moved from another table and sit either side of me and we have a good laugh about various things and i'm starting to enjoy it, I'm looking for a hand to shove with and get dealt AA on the button, bingo I rase and get re-raised allin from BB with 10 10 so nice double up. A number of hands later and I take out Avkid and Sean when I river a flush with AK on Seans QQ then a few hands later take a massive pot when the lad shoves allin with 10 10 and I find KK. At this stage I have about 62k and the blinds are only 1 and 2 or maybe less I cant remember and down to 2 tables.

Anyway the hand in question: Im in BB, player 3 goes allin for about 28k, player 4 re-raises allin for about 40k, player 5 re-raises all in for about 60k the whole table gasps and I look down at AA. You would think I would be in pot like a shot but something held me back, a bad feeling , gut reaction whatever, I just thought that I need to get lucky against 3 pocket pairs (i thought) for my aces to hold (whether the bad beats on-line had anything to do with it I don't know). There was a shit load of play left in the game and I was beginning to get to know all my opponents game and no offence fancied my chances to out play some of them at crucial times, so didnt want to go gung hoe into a pot for practically my tournament relying on my aces to hold against 3 random hands. Also after I tanked for what seemed like an hour, it was getting more difficult to call as I would have got a barrage of abuse for slow rolling Anyway the cards went on their backs after I folded and would have lost to 2 of the 3 players but that doesnt matter a jot.

We get to the final table and have a discussion about it and a good laugh and I said some shite about folding AA in a cash game but it was 3.30 in the morning and I was wrecked so ignor all that crap I said Neil. So there you go, I fold my 1 pair pre-flop rightly or wrongly I don't care much and that was that.

Discuss all you like and have a good laugh but please don't ridicule me for doing it, it seemed the right thing to do. Btw if I was on a table where someone did that, I'd be as shocked as some of you

If you don't care why write a whole story about it where everyone is gonna call you a massive dousche and tell you your play is horrible.

Seems even more stupid than laying the hand down.

It's just an unbelievably terrible fold. The case for folding would be marginally less ridiculous if more than one opponent had you covered. Giving up poker > Folding here.

i think villain player this really well, recognising his superior postflop skills and mad stealing abilities give him a superior edge than a single big hand, so its a correct pass imo.
