RIP Mr Robson, Legend is a word too often used in sporting terms, in your case it is not only merited, it was earned !

My favourite Bobby Robson story:

Reporter to Newcastle's Shola Ameobi: 'Do you have a nickname?'
Ameobi: 'No, not really'
Reporter: 'So what does Bobby Robson call you?'
Ameobi: 'Carl Cort.'

Bobby Robson story I heard today

young lad to bobby, thrusting book in front of him

"can I have your autograph please? Bet you have done a lot of these today, sorry"

"I've done hundreds son" Bobby says as he signs

Boy gets book home, opens it up and it is signed

"Bobby Hundreds"

I was listening to an interview with him on the radio, he was saying how grateful he is for the wonderful life provided by football.

May he rest in peace.

can't remember the match but i remember Ronaldo (brazilian one) in his prime running across the pitch to say hello to Bobby who had brought him through the youth ranks at barca, showed the respect he commanded from all.

Ronaldo was brought to Europe by PSV in 1994. Sir Bobby signed him at Barca in 1996.

Ronaldo called him the best manager he'd ever played under a while ago though...and he was probably right.

Seeing how frail he looked last Sunday this doesn't come as a
surprise. It's very sad but if I get to leave this world having achieved a 10th of what he did I'll be very happy, so he must have gone content with all he did.

I met, well served him tea, once an witness him interact with people a fair bit. He was a true gent and turned Newcastle back round single handed. What I wouldn't give for something
similar now.

Sir Bobby Robson. A gent and a geordie.

My boys got me a signed copy of Bobby Robsons autobiography "Farewell but not goodbye"   ....  well happy with that, the man is a legend.

The above was from an old thread re Xmas pressies ...I shall be searching that book out of unpacked boxes, dusting it off and giving it another read.

This is said a lot but it really is FACT that Sir Bobby is a true legend not only of the game but of life

I had the pleasure of meeting him just over a year ago,the company i work for sells mobility scooters and he came to buy one(ended up doing some advertising for us but anyway i digress) anyway he went in the boardroom got the full works obviously its Sir Bobby Robson i was so jealous because the directors who dealt with him didn't even like football so i was pretty steaming thinking obvoiusly he's not well so will just go straight away, but when he came out the meeting he walked around the whole building speaking to every member of staff which is around 200 taking photos and everything then on his way out he was obviously quite exhausted so he sat at the desk opposite me and we just talked about football and newcaslte and whatever else fo0r about 10 minutes it was pretty surreal and an absolute pleasure i still have the piece of paper that i got him to sign on my desk "To Raymond best of luck Bobby Robson" and its something i will cheerish for rest of my life, the man was an abosolute gent .The world has lost a wonderful man may he rest in peace xx
