Title: tikay - an apology.
Post by: tikay on December 05, 2005, 01:30:05 PM
I played the Notts £200 last night - nice comp - but an unfortunate occurence went off during Level 3. To the poor guy in Seat 1 - never seen him before, but lovely chap - I apologise for the misunderstanding that arose when I picked up QQ.

Naturally, I Raise it up to 1k (blinds were 150-300) but Seat 1, the Table Calling Station, smooth calls me.

The flop came thus......

 Jc 8d 7h

Not a bad flop for QQ, it has to be said. I take another look at my beautiful Queens, just to be sure, but it appears there's been a bit of a mis-read - I've actually got  7s 2h.

Hmm, what to do? Well, I HAVE hit the flop, or. more correctly, caught a bit of it. I really don't wanna check this down & have to show the hand - I KNOW he'll call any pot-sized bet, he does it with any 2 cards.

Clearly, I need to move in here, to get rid of him before he hits his rag A or whatever, so I make a massive overbet - about 8k, "all-in" I say confidently.

To my dismay he beats me into the pot.

Now I DO have a problem. I can cope with blowing my stack away, but I'm gonna be having to show my hand now........

I hesitate. He turns over, wait for it......

   Tc 9s

That's THE NUTS. And I've now gotta show my 7-2.

I slide a little lower in my chair, pull my cap down over my eyes, look down, & embarrassingly flip over my 7-2. Gasps & howls of laughter all round. Yeah, very bloody funny.

The turn is dealt.

 7d

Then the River.

 2c

I dunno what to say to the poor fella. All I can say is that it was a pure misread. I must have looked at the same card twiice.

Was this not a mis-deal and a split pot? Was the cardroom manager not summoned over and reprimanded for supplying a deck of cards with two  8d in it?

or was that another mis-read?? ;)

p.s. if they called an all in bet with 2nd pair no kicker and gutshot str8 draw then they deserve to lose, no apology needed!!

<post edit comments> now that the original post has been amended please ignore lines one and two of this post as only line 3 now applies. And NO MONKEY HASN'T BEEN AT THE BANANA JUICE AGAIN DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS!! (before anyone asks) :)

<2ND POST EDIT COMMENTS> now that the entire original post has been retyped - please ignore all of my replies as now none of it has any relevance to any of the above!!!!  :D

Strange isn't it that you never see Brian Wilson and Tikay in the same room at the same time........both blonde.......both great misreaders.......both the same person?

There are many one liners that can be inserted after this quote all that revolve around Brian's ability to WIN with rags and....... well no, i'd better not - i'm only one  :redcard: away from a 5 tourney suspension......

Isn't it Td 9s Tikay? Or does middle pair, duff kicker look like the nuts when betting against you?  ;tk;

Hmm, I made a RIGHT pigs ear of that Post - sorry. Another misread?

I've corrected it now.

Matt - I've had enough of your Monkey business - you are sailing very close to the wind. BE CAREFUL.......

Isn't there a misread in the title too? You make it look like you're apologising to yourself... :D

as monkeys don't make good sailors - most of us suffer from sea-sickness even on small barge trips (probably not many of you know that!!) so the warning has been heeded :'(

out of curiosity though - where are the origins of that saying? surely as a sailor it is a good thing to be sailing close to the wind as it would mean you are being propelled at a faster rate and yet the saying implies that only bad things will come of it? (told you monkeys dont make good sailors!)

He called a 1k raise preflop, out of position, with T9o no apology needed. You lead in to the pot so stuff him!

:D :D :D :D :D

I can understand your horror at the misread. I also had QQ this weekend and needed the blinds so moved all in on the button to pick them up. BB called and showed KK so I was in very poor shape, even more so when I turned them over and found they had turned out to be J4o. I thought that hand was the business until now.

Robert, thanks for the welcome in other threads. I do want to congratulate myself on taking that hand down with KK

Really takes a man with stones to call in that position  :D :D

Oh you brave man. Hidden in this forum are lots of mentions of J4o and my warped sense of humour couldn't resist the move, please don't think I am totally mad.

LOL Misreading 7 2 as QQ :D

Wierdly I had a dream the other night that I folded pocket queens only for the flop to show the other two queens
