PKR HEADS-UP GRAND SLAM LAUNCHES IN LONDON IN OCTOBER YOUNG GUNS LEAD THE CHARGE AS DURRRR, FULL FLUSH, OBRESTAD AND TIMOSHENKO SIGN UP Matchroom Sport and PKR are delighted to announce the inaugural PKR Heads-Up Grand Slam in London from October 8-10, 2009. The invitational event, held at 3 Mills Studio, will see 32 of the world’s best players battling it out for the $100,000 first prize from a prize pool of $350,000 – with PKR adding $30,000 to the pot. The deep structure will let the players demonstrate their full repertoire of skills and the knockout format promises to offer some mouth-watering clashes. The ‘Voice of Poker’ Jesse May, will make the draw for the tournament on Wednesday September 9, which will be shown on MatchroomPoker and PKR The big names are already in the hat with Tom “Durrrr” Dwan, Luke “Full Flush” Schwartz, WSOPE champ Annette Obrestad, WPT winner Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Premier League champion JC Tran, triple-crown king Roland de Wolfe, Nam Le, AndrewT, Antonio Esfandiari , David Williams, Juha Helppi, Theo Tran, Vicky Coren, Sammy “Any Two” George, Dean Morris, Andrew Feldman and Roberto Romanello* confirmed to take part and more top stars will be announced in September. Players can also qualify for one of six open spots with satellites that will run only at PKR Eddie Hearn, Managing Director of Matchroom Sport said, “We have been looking at creating a heads-up event for a while now and I’m excited that we have the formula just right. Shows such as the NBC Heads-Up Championship have attracted huge ratings and we expect this event to continue that trend. There will be a plethora of poker talent gathering in London in October and the names that have already committed look to provide a breathtaking line up.” Simon Prodger, Marketing Director of PKR said, “We are excited to work with Matchroom Sport and put Heads-Up poker on the European TV map.
