Title: Irish Champion Stakes Today Post by: Karabiner on September 05, 2009, 12:26:02 PM Not a tip, just some random musings about See The Stars who is a horse that I adore which is a bit of a rarity in itself as he is a flat horse and I usually save my equine affection for those who ply their trade over the sticks. The fact that I had small wagers on him in both the Guineas and The Derby probably helped our love to blossom.
See The Stars is a great horse and I don't think I'm exaggerating by using the word great, definitely the best middle-distance horse since Nashwan and maybe even better, only time and his next couple of races will tell how high a rank he might take. I just can't help wondering if there is any pressure to run him today in Ireland and show him off in his homeland as I thought they might just put him away and save him for The Arc, ground permitting of course. The other nagging thought that I have is that although STS won easily enough in the end last time out, he only ever wins by about a lenth or so, it just seemed to me as though when Murtagh put his foot on the pedal it took rather longer for the change of pace and surge of acceleration to happen that on previous occasions. Could it be a sign of dwindling powers ? I hope not as he is such a magnificent animal and I feel he deserves to keep his unbeaten record. I won't be laying STS but I won't be backing him either, just looking forward to watching what could be a great race. There was never going to be enough pressure on the trainer to run on unsuitable going, that would be stupid. And there was a point? Stunning performance from STS though, and never in doubt.
