Title: NFL playoff question
Post by: T_Mar on September 17, 2009, 03:40:13 PM
Apologies for novice question but how does the wilcard/divisional places get worked out for the NFL playoffs

I'm presuming that the winners of each division go straight to the divisional playoff... wild cards are made up of second places in the divisions?? If so where do the winners of these 2 matches fit in as would mean 10 teams?!?!

4 divisional winners

Plus the two teams from each conference with the best records

6 teams for each conference

teams with top two records get a bye week

each wild card team plays away at a division winner

in effect you have QF,SF and final for each conference, then the superbowl

You didn't win at Lambo field, it's not the end of the season.
Your defence is still a top unit. The packers won but Aaron Rodgers didn't have the kind of game everybody thought he was going to have, he met with consistent pressure and had a tough afternoon.

Cutler is not going to throw 4 interceptions every game. If anything that game is a good omen for you guys in the quarterback position. He threw more passes that were caught 30 or more yards from the line of scrimmage in that one game than Kyle Orton did for you last year in the whole 16 game season. With that kind of weapon teams can't just play 8 men in the box all the time vs the Bears and consequently your run game gets much easier.

The only thing the bears are missing is a more experienced recieving core. I still wouldn't be surprised to see the Bears in the playoffs this year.

dont misunderstand me wasnt throwing in the towel (anyone who knows me knows im a rabid bears fan)

the bears are not a top 10 defense (and havent been for a while now) they are living off their reputation more than anything , they are an average defence however now the offense is not going 3 and out all the time they arent being asked to win games by ST and Def alone

OUr Wrs are fine (something the UK bears fan club have been saying all preseason inexperienced yes but Cutler will make them better and they are picking up experience fast)

Our defense still struggles against the pass , Bowman and Tillman are solid enough but the Tampa 2 revolves around pressure and anytime we come up against a mobile QB we struggle (see seneca wallace in week 3)

The point is The vikiings and packers are decent units with less question marks and in the long run I cant see the Bears being dominant enough to win consistently our 2 wins this year has been due to the opposition missing key FGs . The good news is that the bears schedule is one of the easier ones in the league the bad news is that GB and MV have similar schedules so it will boil down to the team that manages to win the difficult games (ravens, steelers, falcons, niners) and doesnt manage to trip up against the easier games (lions ,seahawks, cleveland)
