Title: Re: haye v valuev Post by: DaveShoelace on September 25, 2009, 09:48:34 AM Very few boxers of his size are actually any good, their size works against them later on. I remember they wheeled out this 7ft sack of shit to fight audley harrison and he was awful, just made harrison look better than he was. Valuev will be one of the better ones, but its not the toughest division in the world at the moment. Will be fun to watch either way.
Title: Re: haye v valuev Post by: TheChipPrince on September 25, 2009, 09:50:19 AM He eats 3 kilos of meat a day, thats roughly 17 quarter pounders...
Title: Re: haye v valuev Post by: kinboshi on September 25, 2009, 09:52:51 AM Valuev does has some skill, and he's not just a freak. However, his size obviously affects his speed and it's definitely a case of David v Goliath (so easy for the headline writers this one) and Haye needs to use his speed and skills and stay out of the way.

I reckon if Haye takes him the distance (which he probably will) we could see a dodgy decision.
Hope I'm wrong and Haye takes a running jump and floors the big fecker in the first round. Coming through little jabs for 12 rounds really takes it out of a fighter, see hatton v mayweather. The last bit of valuev i saw his game plan was pretty much jab him when he comes in then lateral movement away from the hooks and it worked like a charm. I'd expect haye to win the first few rounds but with biased judges and haye tiring i'd be more inclined to think valuev would win in a points situation. Some time between 9:30 and 11pm, bigger box office in Europe than the US hence the sensible start time. There has been some petty squabbling about it being earlier than advertised as Haye makes more if it slightly later to get the box off figures up in the UK. As for the fight I hope Haye wins, firstly cos he is British obv and secondly because he is pretty interesting to watch, we need exciting fighters in the heavyweight division. If it goes the distance he has to win every round just to get a split decision according to someone just on Sky Sports. Shame Haye didn't go for it a little earlier, might have got a knockdown and a stoppage win. Good to have a Brit as World Champ again. Title: Re: haye v valuev Post by: Maxriddles on November 07, 2009, 11:12:38 PM Should beat Ruiz in first defence too.
Title: Re: haye v valuev Post by: Woodsey on November 07, 2009, 11:13:00 PM Wow never been so delighted to lose a bet ever!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thought it was 50/50 at decision time. A small part of me thinks the powers that be in boxing want not only rid of Valuev, but they see David Haye as $$$$$$$$$ for them and boxing as a whole. DH will be a good and exciting heavyweight champion for the future IMO, good luck to him I say. Title: Re: haye v valuev Post by: Leatherman on November 07, 2009, 11:22:59 PM Also glad I lost my bet, had money on Valuev too win on points..
So shocked yet happy with result... Good for boxing... Title: Re: haye v valuev Post by: cia260895 on November 07, 2009, 11:41:48 PM Wow never been so delighted to lose a bet ever!!!!!!!!!!!! Really meh fight but I thought Haye won. Valuev is so ridiculously limited as a boxer that is an embarrasment he was a heavyweight champion. I think peoples concerns about Haye getting a bad decision (including myself) were unfounded, Haye is sooooooooo much more marketable for future fights that it balances the home advantage. Oh and wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii @ a British boxer being heavyweight champ. Title: Re: haye v valuev Post by: DaveShoelace on November 08, 2009, 09:27:31 AM It was a really interesting and captivating fight, though I wouldnt want to watch a rematch.
In a completely neutral environment, I think Haye won it by a couple of clear rounds, but I actually think he needed to do a lot more because he was in Germany. Either way cracking result, Haye is awesome for both british boxing and heavyweight boxing in general and I think he has shown he can change gears and hang with the big men no problem. Also, this once again shows what a tremendous sack of shit Audley Harrison is, who still hasnt managed a proper world title fight after winning gold 9 years ago, yet Haye wins bronze or someink at some other comp and then just a few years later is fighting for the world heavyweight title from cruiserweight after three fights. Haye should cruise past Ruiz, but I think the Kltschkos would be a step too far, hope im wrong. Title: Re: haye v valuev Post by: The Baron on November 08, 2009, 01:01:03 PM Wathed this on Sky Box Office and thought the commentators were terribly over-cautious about the judges when Haye was clearly ahead by a few rounds.
As widely predicted tbh - good little spectacle though. Title: Re: haye v valuev Post by: DaveShoelace on November 08, 2009, 01:44:28 PM Wathed this on Sky Box Office and thought the commentators were terribly over-cautious about the judges when Haye was clearly ahead by a few rounds. As widely predicted tbh - good little spectacle though. Think the commentators were probably right actually, though I did have him ahead and they didnt, a challenger has to stand out to take a title and Germany is so corrupt and incompetent (although in fairness, they got it dead right but the earlier fight that joke ref did give Ruizs opponent a standing 8 when he should have stopped it) I think Haye should have won the rounds more convincingly to guarantee victory. Probably the presence of Don King meant that the two corrupt influences worked as a double negative and actually made the fight pretty fair. Title: Re: haye v valuev Post by: Maxriddles on November 08, 2009, 02:24:28 PM For me Haye done enough to be ahead but I didn't think he had done enough to get a points decision in a world title fight in Germany. I was actually really surprised when he got the decision. Delighted for him though. Agree that he will probably be out his depth against either Klitschko.

I would have had Haye to beat Wladamir last year but when Wladamir beat Chageyev (who also beat Valuev) he looked absolutely brilliant. I agree that Haye will struggle to beat him after seeing that. He has no chance against Vitaili. |
