Title: Marginal hand oop
Post by: ardeecee on September 20, 2009, 08:33:32 PM

I'd welcome some views on this situation I tend to find myself in now and again being oop with a marginal hand.

$40 mtt online, 50ish players left from 115, i'm in around 10th place in chips. Been at the table for about 3 orbits, villain has been pretty active while i've been at the table with little resistance  and has just won a big pot to be near enough chip leader.  Only hand he has shown was AA to win the big pot.

Button ($11440.00)
HERO SB SB ($17035.50)T(http://www.talking-poker.com/templates/talkingpoker/images/heart.gif) J(http://www.talking-poker.com/templates/talkingpoker/images/heart.gif)
BB ($14960.00)
UTG ($9942.50)
UTG+1 ($17547.22)
VILLAIN MP MP ($21437.48)
MP ($9827.50)
CO-1 ($10020.00)
CO ($11433.38)

Preflop: , 2 folds, MP raises to 678.00, 4 folds, SB raises to 1980.00, 1 fold, MP calls 1302.00.

Flop (4410.00) 5(http://www.talking-poker.com/templates/talkingpoker/images/diamond.gif) T(http://www.talking-poker.com/templates/talkingpoker/images/diamond.gif) 5(http://www.talking-poker.com/templates/talkingpoker/images/club.gif)
SB bets 2355.00, MP raises to 6000.00

Based on the image I have of him so far, calling my 3b doesn't narrow his range too much but after raising my cbet, what range can i be putting him on? Obv as I'm posting it here you can guess I didn't win the hand but I'd appreciate comments on his potential range and what you would do.
Thanks

You don't just find yourself in these positions, you chose to 3-bet the cl oop with a marginal hand. Don't really think that's the best strat at this table, or at any other table actually. It's a very easy flop for the active cl to raise your lead. Maybe you want to be c-raising instead on this board.

dont worry - lots of bumped threads recently - thats what george meant

fixing this leak dramatically improved my game - i used to do this alot

As for the hand itself - if he has been active the i like your weak lead to jam............. if thats what you did

I think he has an under pair to your 10. I think any overpair gets em in pre (possibly not JJ), or the only hand that beats you is AT. Given the spot you are in I jam and look to bink

but yeah - dont get yourself there in the first place

tough spot, think uv played it fine thus far. need at least some kinda read on villain and his tendencies. If hes run of the mill, its a fold. If hes out of line/tricky, call then CRAI a non-diamond turn looks good.

Check stack sizes.

lol

thought stacks were 10* what they are obv. Flip a coin, mainly dont 3bet oop this shallow and dont be bet folding the top of your range. Probably just go with it coz ppl do dumb shit, u have top pair in a 3b pot and u have the type of name that implies you run good.

Thanks for comments guys. Guy, you've pretty much read the way i played it. When he calls pre I was thinking AJ,A10,AQ type hands or mid pairs. When he repops I narrow him to maybe fd or mid pair not wanting to see another card, or complete air trying to push me off a weak lead. I jammed and he shows  4s 5s lol!

Not results orientated here as I can never put him on a 5 but more the way I played pre and getting myself into that spot was the advice i was looking for.

Thanks again!!
