Title: Any ideas on this hand please!!
Post by: roscopiko on September 28, 2009, 04:23:44 PM
£75 Freezeout - 12k starting stack

Level 2 50/100

Table is pretty passive on the whole, lots of multi way pots and limpers to the flop no big pots to date and few hands shown down.
My image is pretty laggy, lots of small pots won but no hands shown.

UTG (17k) -  call 100
MID1 (12k) - call 100
MID2 (12k) - call 100
CUTOFF (12k) - call 100
ME BUTTON (15k)  { Js  Jh} - call 100
SB (10k) - call 50
BB (9k) - raise to 600
UTG - call 500
ALL OTHERS FOLD
ME - raise to 2100
BB - call 1500
UTG - all in 17000

Any guesses what UTG has, what is your action?

Wtf at this hand.

I would raise 1st time round we have jacks, loads of limpers and a loose image, sound pretty much like heaven to me.

UTG has played this super weird, something like AK but to be honest his line is so strange that it could be anything. When it get back to us I probs want to kill myself and probs wonder why I might end up putting 150 bigs in pre with JJ.

. Limp and then re-raise to 2100 not knowing what do do when you get shoved on? That's not right at all.

Table pretty passive on the whole means you have to be miles behind here.

Clear fold now.

UTG has a smaller pair than you here. People spaz out cos they think you're making a move

Raise one hand in the air......

Once you overlimp reraise the button stack off but why not just raise first time around?

With so many limpers and this deep what would you suggest for a raise?  I would generally just limp here and set mine bacause I'm never getting it heads up with any bet imo.

The BB raise gives me a new opportunity where I'm pretty sure I'm good and the UTG flat with so many to act behind looked pretty weak so I was happy to play for a bigger pot then.

UTGs line really confused me tbh and because I could only put him on a spaz with mid pairs or worst case AK I called.  He flipped QQ and I binked the J and he has a rant that he obviously has a big pair the way its played lol.

Strange hand.

You elect to limp the first time around. That's fine, I probably do the same myself here. Just know that we're set mining though and don't get overexcited if we end up with an overpair.

But then second time around you change your tactic? You now raise? What was your thought process doing this? What if the BB raises again, do you really think you're good? And if they do both call then you're in a 4bet pot where pretty much every flop is going to be ugly.

That said, I in a way do like your raise, because it does look like you're making a move, especially with your loose image.

So I probably call the shove.

But still, weird hand.

You really think limping is fine dude? I don't. I think it's horrible. I also think op's reason for limping is horrible. The game is soft and multi limpy so it's doubtful any of the limpers have a big hand because a raise isn't expected. Hero finds himself with J-J on the button with a loose image so is seemingly in the box seat in this hand. He has a hand, position & a good trading image but wants to set mine instead. gtfo. And he wants to set mine because some of the villains might call if he raises and he wont be HU. So we avoid playing well cos some villains may play bad. That's not a good mentality. Also because big pots aren't developing post flop the implied odds of set mining suck anyway. Oh and also playing the hand this way means we are often completely lost in the hand.

Fair points, out of interest what would your raise to here?

utg could have like any pair the way this is played out, when you raise he's like wtfffffff, and can life tilt shove here so wide. guess you just woke up against the top of his range.

iso raise in the first place and if he comes over the top then fold imo..
