Title: Ever had one of those games...
Post by: AdamM on December 09, 2005, 11:52:05 AM
where everything seems to fall into place.

£50 limited rebuy (1) last night at Notts. in 2nd level I have KQ in a limped family pot. flop is K high and I reckon I have the best of it. turns out I make a straight, a K9 makes two pair but a K7 makes a flush. REBUY. the cards are not coming and I find myself down to 2000 and have to post an 800 BB.

Then it happens. the game changes and I come alive. seat 4 makes it 2000 (rag A he said) seat 6 raises to 6000 (QQ) i call (KK) and triple up.
over the next 2 hours I get good value out of some big hands. KK v QQ twice more, AA v 33, AK v AJ, AK v A7, AQ v 6,6 (6 on flop runner runner flush for me 8) ) I picked up some pots with good late position moves, got away from A10 on a 10,8,6 board. I knew he was on two pair or a straight. he showed 9,7. played an absolute blinder.

as it goes I lost a coin flip in an unpleasant way my 9,9 v AK flop we're all looking for A or K. Q,J,x comes. now we're looking for A,K,or 10. tirn is a Q and most or us are all still looking for A,K or 10 but a J comes and my 9,9 is counterfeit. gutted. still, as I wasn't out played and it wasn't a bad beat I soon got over it. I missed the money (approx £2k 1st would have been nice) but came away feeling pretty good about my game.

anyone else remember a purple patch they remember (Brian Wilson need not answer that question ;) )

Adam

How the hell do you remember the hands?

I forget what cards I've mucked as soon as I've mucked them.

There's no better feeling. Shame you missed the money, sounds like for were on track for getting a nice wee pay day.

Had one of these purple patches on Monday at the Cincinnatis £20 2re-buy game.
I went into the final table the short-stack, after playing 3 no-brainer premium hands I was nearly chip leader. Wasn't afraid to use them raising, re-raising, my stack grew and grew.

Then an interesing hand came up.
Had 99 in the big blind. A 'sort of' solid player called from early position. This might be because he was slow-playing a big one, or just because the last time he raised my big blind, I came over the top of him. (Had rags, but didn't care, read him to be weak and went for it)
MikkyT, who I later knocked out, had said something along the lines of "I'm going to pass coz your hands are shaking". I'd not seen this, but that information made me check insteaad of raise. The flop came 3 little clubs. I didn't have the 9 clubs in my hand, but if he bet I was thinking about raising. I check, he checks.
Turn card paired the board, this changes nothing, I thought. Same plan as the flop, same result aswell, check check.

Bingo on the river, I spike the 9 of clubs for my full house. Need to bet out here I thought. I get raised, so I re-raise, my opponent goes all-in. "Poor bugger must have the Ace-high flush" I remember thinking, as I beat him into the pot with the rest of my chips.

"Do you have the King? Because I have the Ace." He said, surprised to get so much action from what he thought was the nut flush. I declared my hand and he looked at the board again in disbelief, the poor chap looked sick. His flopped nut flush no longer good.

Top 3 were payed. 4 players were left. Usually, deals are done at about this point, expecting this the money was brought to the table in three 8oz glasses. With the big stack facing two medium stacks and a short stack on the bubble, there was no way I was making a deal.

As if to make my blind stealing exploits easier, the two medium stacks were staring at the money like hungry dogs. One of them I'd previously chatted to for a bit, and knew him to be short rolled. The other had a look about him that said poor sudent, so I guessed he could use the money aswell. For a few orbits, I first went through the charade of looking at my hole cards before announcing "all-in" without bothering to move any chips.
Easy money. Of course, every time the short stack was on the big blind, I folded.

Sadly, the short stack was to my right. After I'd folded the others would get a crack at him. They twigged before too long that this is exactly what they'd need to do as there was no way I was going to do their dirty work for them. Sure enough, the bubble did burst and Christmas was over. No matter, I had a huge chip lead. Not even one of them doubling through me prevented me from taking the trophy and 1st place money of £333. Not huge money but it'll save me going to the bank machine for a while.

One of the few folk to have a Cincinnats trophy that isn't tainted by a deal having been done for it. It's a crappy wee bit of wood but I love it all the same. Only 19 players in the tournament, but that's the first time I've won a live event with over 10 players so was really chuffed.

As if to confirm my feeling that my games good at the minute I just won a 132 runner MTT on Laddies. $396 isn't a fortune but it's gonna kick start a MTT campaign because I'm buzzin right now.

Bring it on

It was the best play of the night, you deserved the top prize.

Like one guy said, it was kinda funny how he only shut up when he was bluffing.

Good luck AdamM hope you get another result or two while you're on form.
