Title: easy fold? Post by: piestack on November 09, 2009, 10:22:12 AM villain is almost complete unknown, this was maybe the 4th orbit he'd been at table, done nothing noticeably good or bad. folded to most cont bets so far

Title: Re: easy fold? Post by: paulhouk03 on November 09, 2009, 01:00:23 PM never fold
Title: Re: easy fold? Post by: Tuffster on November 09, 2009, 01:17:08 PM From my point of view, the only logical hands here are 9T, sets or overpair.
Was he the sort of guy to call with 9Ts pre-flop? If so, it makes sense to repop now whilst he's sure he's ahead. If it's a set then why flat the flop and then re-pot the turn, that just screams strength. So I'd guess more likely it's an over-pair JJ/QQ and it's a bet to get you to fold rather than to build the pot. Personally I'm calling here and check/calling the river, or putting out a stopper bet. When he raises the river, I sigh, call and muck to his 9Ts Title: Re: easy fold? Post by: BulldozerD on November 09, 2009, 01:25:20 PM i have a feeling that one pair isn't good here.
having said that your bet on the turn is pretty small and looks weak. in addition to hands mentioned, could be 78s Title: Re: easy fold? Post by: Cf on November 09, 2009, 01:31:26 PM 78 and T9 are the hands we're worried about. Also sets.
I call the turn bet. Your bet looks weak so he might just be playing at that. You may well be ahead of Tx/JJ+ and if he has got T9 you have outs. See what he does on the river. Title: Re: easy fold? Post by: yorky34 on November 09, 2009, 04:48:35 PM i reluctantly call
Title: Re: easy fold? Post by: doubleup on November 09, 2009, 06:03:51 PM I know that you haven't played long with villain, but you have observed him folding a bit to c-bets. What is your general feel for his play? Loose passive or a set-mining type? He must've won a pot - how did that go down? Title: Re: easy fold? Post by: bragunn on November 09, 2009, 07:16:03 PM i'd call
Title: Re: easy fold? Post by: piestack on November 09, 2009, 08:33:40 PM can't remember exactly but according to my hud he'd folded to something like 3/4 cont bets
my turn bet was too small and i couldn't decide at the time whether to bet or check and then calling river/value betting if checked to, so i decided to do the halfway thing which is clearly worst choice. i found another hand from the session that is much more interesting.... villain is both passive post flop but also bluffy. only played 50 hands with him up to this point so again it makes it more difficult. 6-max Seat #3 is the button Seat 1: superhero ($286.95 in chips) Seat 2: CO ($187 in chips) Seat 3: jenson ($34 in chips) Seat 4: SB ($188 in chips) Seat 5: villain ($269 in chips) Seat 6: UTG ($48 in chips) SB: posts small blind $1 villain: posts big blind $2 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to superhero [Qc Ad] UTG: folds superhero: raises $6 to $8 CO: folds jenson: folds SB: folds villain: calls $6 *** FLOP *** [Qd 3s 9c] villain: checks superhero: bets $12 villain: calls $12 *** TURN *** [Qd 3s 9c] [2c] villain: checks superhero: bets $24 villain: raises $40 to $64 superhero: calls $40 *** RIVER *** [Qd 3s 9c 2c] [Ac] villain: bets $185 and is all-in superhero: ???? Title: Re: easy fold? Post by: silverslick on November 09, 2009, 08:41:05 PM Call the $185 all in. Unlikely flush with only one club on the flop. On the first hand he could have Jacks, Queens, kings and be trying to price you off a straight but you are only 50 50.

Post by: piestack on November 10, 2009, 05:10:40 PM 2nd one struck me as v odd as most hands people would checkraise with would be made hands which wouldn't like the flush.
seeing as he was pretty much an unknown i called and he tabled Jh Th 1st one i folded. didn't fancy having to call that bet and a river bet. if i bet properly ~$30 it would have made my decisions easier imo Title: Re: easy fold? Post by: Cottonbud on November 18, 2009, 07:03:30 PM I think the 1st hand is an easy pass you are beat by sets, 7-8, Two pair hands and there is no FD on the flop.
In the 2nd hand I think its alot more difficult, I guess once you call the turn its hard to pass the river when you make top 2, but if he had a set then the ace is obviously irrelevant, the question is would he shove Q9s or perhaps A9 for value as its literally the only 2 genuine hands in his calling range that you beat, that he may shove for value. In terms of hands he could call the flop with and semi-bluff the turn I guess you can beat K-10, J-10, 10-8 I like the mention of J-10cc I think this is a real possibility here. |
