Title: Quick Vegas Update Post by: Karabiner on November 13, 2009, 06:23:38 PM Arrived here Tuesday evening after a long long day and a decent flight with the new BA direct from Heathrow although I must report that i found the onboard food inedible, other than that the flight was fine and landed on time at around 6.15pm local time and I got a taxi immediately after claiming my bag and was safely ensconced in The Golden Nugget showered and back in their familiar cardroom grinding $1/$2 by around 9pm.
I managed to stay up until just after midnight making it around 26 hours with no sleep and figured that I was bound to drop off immediately. Not a bit of it, I hardly could sleep a wink and was up at 7am the next morning and the bags under my eyes looked like large suitcases ! After some breakfast, oh how I love the breakfasts over here I went back to grinding the $1/$2 incurring another small loss and then decided to take the duece bus down to The Venetian and see if I could spot anyone that I know. No sooner was I seated at another $1/$2 table in a seat which was facing the tourney desk than I spotted Maria, Nicky and LeKnave arriving suitably late for the midday deepstack tourney that I had decided to swerve until I was over the jet-lag. They all looked fine and are apparently all sharing a room at shrewdie central. I have just stuck to cash so far and am a few hundred in front but I'm going to dip my toes into the Venetian Deepstack $340 today. When I was there yesterday they were playing day two of Wednesday's tourney and I went over to see if i knew any of the survivors. Who do I spot but my old mate Rumit who was sitting comfortably with 19 left and $33K up top to play for. Good luck him ! Okay off for brekkie now then down to The Strip, will update again soon. Arrived yesterday and head over to Venetian and found Sunny and Nick 'dino1980' Wright playing Pai Gow while Nicky Evans was steaming in a sattellite. LeKnave sure didn't enjoy telling us Evans had got it in the deepstack with J-T on a J-T-x board vs 8-7...
Evans binks the sattellite despite us all anti-railing him as he gets it in with K-J vs A-2 and then 9-7 vs Q-J to win it. Spur of the moment and we all decide to play a sattellite. Table reads two randoms, Knave, Evans, Dino, my friend Elissa from Pokerpages, me, Sunny and then two more randoms. Best moment was when a crippled Knave is all in with Qc Jc vs Sunny's Ahrt 6h and the flop comes Th 9c 6c. We're shouting for bricks...Knave sure got there. We had a last longer and Dino was holding the money in his cup-holder, I bust Dino through being a total card rack, but as he's leaving the table, a member of the floor says, "Don't forget your money!" and me and Evans shout, "Sure is his money now!" Manage to win the last longer and the sat and we go and play some more Pai Gow, I do my brains but don't feel so bad when I remind the others it's all their money from the last longer. Knave, Dino and I play a dollar a high card as well as our bets and I think I win like 2 from 25 hands, one time Jones' has 5 high and scoops. The dealer is killling us and Evans sticks $300 on one hand which binks and gets him out of it. Brummieboy comes and joins us and immediately binks hands for fun as I continue to do my brains, though I do manage to grim Brummie one time for 25 cents as I have only 3 quarters and no $1 chips left in the high card game. Peel my hand and get the Tc and Kh before getting 3d 4d 5d 7d....I show the hand to Jones and say "6d one time!" Peel and weeeeeee there it is. Then I realise I only have $1 on the bonus instead of the $5 I'd be playing previously. Still get paid 50-1 though. We all head off over to the Green Valley Ranch in Henderson and see Steel Panther which was fucking hilarious while meeting up with some of the Pokernews people. The PN peeps get a table at the drop bar after the show while Brummie, Knave, Evans etc play beer bong at the Irish bar nearby. I have like one drink and then realise I haven't slept properly in nearly two days and bail out, just got up and I feel like shit. But in a good way. Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: Royal Flush on November 14, 2009, 07:46:56 PM Evans binks the sattellite despite us all anti-railing him as he gets it in with K-J vs A-2 and then 9-7 vs Q-J to win it. You could almost say he stole it.... I'd a good start won $650 in my first session but lost most of it back since.
ps I was on ralph's flight and can concur that the food was ubl bad. Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: AndrewT on November 14, 2009, 09:50:15 PM In the MGM Grand right now. Went down to the sportsbook to see if there might be one tiny screen showing the Ireland v France game. At the other end of the room I spied one screen which was showing football. I wandered over to find it was the Portugal v Bosnia game - wtf? So now up in my room 'watching' the Guardian text commentary.
Played two deepstacks so far - got gg'd in both (AA v K3sooted and walked into a slowplayed nut flush with 97 on a 3499 board). Had a bit of a result after Thursday's game. Got knocked out in level 2, so had a look at the What's On in Vegas magazine and saw that Leonard Cohen was playing at Caesars Palace for one night only. Went and bought a ticket then played $1/$2 and won back both the cost of the the ticket and my deepstack entry. Concert was awesome - he played for nearly three hours. The MGM is absolutely pumping this weekend as it's the Pacquiao v Cotto fight tonight. Satellite was great, never heard so many rub downs in my life! I was pretty much gg'd, when Nicky shoves on my raise, and my sixes run into his kings. Then finally I leave the table when it folds to me on the small blind, I push with 76off, and get snapped up by AK who makes a house. Played the $550 today and as per usual, just running bad in tournaments out here n Vegas. Can't win flips, let alone 75 - 25's. Hopefully can do better in the $550 tommorrow or the $1k on Monday. Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: NoflopsHomer on November 16, 2009, 03:39:23 AM Ralph has decent chips with about 50 left in today's $500. Rest of us busto. My day was pretty comedy, will write about it later as am on my phone atm. Fields are tez.
Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: Karabiner on November 16, 2009, 07:09:34 PM I played The Venetian $350 on Friday but busted out around 150th/450 so went back "home" downtown to The Nugget and ground the $1/2 retrieving about $250 in a truly wild Friday night game. Unfortunately I had the table maniac on my extreme left who kept opening for $40 ! so had to tighten up as he was sitting with about $1k.
I decided to play the Binions Saturday tourney which seems to be their best of the week, $110 entry with $10k gtd. There were roughly 110 runners making about $3k first prize. I got nicely chipped up early and was looking good to final until my KQ<JT crippling me after I made top two and the ice-cream binked a str. gg me. Twelve got paid and I was 14th :( I went back to The Nugget and tried to grind some more $1/2 but the only decent game was a really wild and deep $1/2 with a drunken laggy Andreas Hoivold post his High Stakes Poker debacle. This was obviously the one game that I should be avoiding and a few glasses of wine later I was sat two to Andreas' right, and an hour or so after that -$500, Marvellous. I slunk off to bed none too happy with myself but when I woke up I told myself that I was playing well and should play The Venetian $550 so after another hearty breakfast I dueced it down to The Strip, entered the tourney and got seated at a table several seats down from young Floppy. There was one key hand on that table that chipped me up. A maniac had arrived on our table on my direct right and had been raising most hands often showing air so I hadn't played a hand for about half an hour. I open for 600(3xbb) in lateish position with Kc, Jc and get FOUR callers and the flop comes down Ac, Js, 9c and I lead for 2200 which is raised on my immediate left to 6600 and then called in another spot. I now shove for 16k total and the raiser folds but the caller calls and tables 6c, 7c :) I scoop a nice 40k pot which is at least double the average. Cutting to the chase now, at the end of a long day 204 runners has condensed down to ten and I have 280k which is about average and $2k is locked up with $25kish for first. We continue from 4pm today. LOL Cashaments ;karabiner; ;sexybanana; ;karabiner; Just one minor thing is that I don't have an ITIN thingy although the floorman at the V said that it only takes a day or so to process and there would be no problem retrieving any deduction. Does anyone have any advice for getting one sorted in the next few hours ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'll come back online in an hour or so after I've had my brekkie. Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: NoflopsHomer on November 16, 2009, 08:08:29 PM My day was very up and down in the deepstack. First hand, we're playing 6-handed with the bb sitting out and UTG opens to 275. I peel Ahrt 8h and someone else comes along too. Flop is T85 two diamonds, we both call a 675 bet. But I c/f on the 2c turn to another bet, other guy calls but then folds to a third barrel on the Js river. OR had Jacks.
Couple of hands later, young Asian kid raises to 250 in MP and I just flat bb with JJ. Flop comes AT7 and I c/call 325 but then c/f to a 700 bet on the 9 turn. Felt like I played this hand a bit weak, but I think it's ok. Marvellous do 2k in the first 10 minutes. Dribble down to about 11k and 5 ppl limp on my big blind at 100/200, I check 6-2 and flop comes Td 2c 2s, gets checked around and the turn is the Jd. I lead for 650, old guy makes it 2k on the button, don't like flatting here b/c so many rivers go c/c or I have to pay off a bet if he has a draw. I make it 6k though I wish I maybe had shoved, made it look more drawy, he folds anyway. Get moved tables and lose a couple of pots to a guy who seems to playing pretty well. My opinion changes when he fails to get the lot with 3h 3c on an Ac 3d 4d Aspades 7d board against Ad Jd. Action went c/c, bet (from the A-J) call, b/c. This nearly life tilts me. Get moved to Sunny's (Free Rollin) table where there's absolute superdonk getting the lot. It's 300/600/50 and he's limping every hand and never folding. One hand he limps UTG on Sunny's BB and the K-2-3-4-4 board gets checked down. Sunny shows 7-6o...losing to 8-6o. I dwindle down to about 5.5k and limpstation limps utg, I jam Ks 9s in his eye since I'm miles ahead of his range. He calls with Qh Th and somehow misses on a Jh 7d 4h 9d 2s board, then berates me for pushing with K-high. Next hand, he opens for 2.2k a little pissed I've got Kc Qc and it's greeeeeeeen, I jam again for about 13k now. Someone jams behind for about a similar sized stack and limpstation folds. Opponent has A-K but I bink straight away to put me up to 30k. A couple of hands later, the one good player on the table opens to 2k from the cutoff, I repop from the big blind with Ac Jc, he insta-jams, I sigh and call and flip goot vs his 9c 9s and suddenly I have about 54k. The limpstation then just starts calling off his whole stack over the next couple of hours. His last hand was awesome, he limps utg for 1,000 playing about 15k, Scottish guy next to him limps Ad Th. Small blind shoves Kc Qs for about 17k, limpstation snap-calls all-in. Scottish guy looks miserable and folds. Limpstation had 3c 2c, I kid you not, and he busts. I lose a couple of pots and get moved again to a new table. First hand I get 6-6 raise to 2,500 at 500/1,000, it's passed around to the small blind who jams for 17k. Blinds are about to go 600/1,200 and I'll have 23k if I call and lose here, it seems pretty marginal so I fold. It gets to my big blind and the small blind playing 16k just limps so I just glance at Jh 8d declare all-in and throw out 20k to cover him. He snaps...Ah. Crap. He shoves in his chips and flips....A-2, owned. I flip my cards and then....the dealer MUCKS MY HAND! I say, "What are you doing? He called all-in." The dealer says he didn't hear me call and I said, "That's because I pushed first," he has shoved my cards right into the muck and they have to get the floorman to come along. After much searching, including me seeing a couple of jacks that were sure gonna come on the flop now, the floor guy recovers my hand and I sure bink. Down to 23k and midposition opens to 3.5k and I have Kc Qc in the small blind and jam and everyone folds to put me back to 30k. So by now I must have the image of a complete maniac but then the table breaks and I get moved straight into the big blind with about 50ish left or so. Button opens to 4k and I repop to 12k with Ahrt Qh and he folds, I then try a couple of raises from the cutoff and button but get 3-bet both times and have to fold. A round later and middle position raises to 3.3k and gets flatted, I jam for 27k with Aspades Qs from the cutoff, OR tanks for five minutes and calls with A-K and other guy folds. I hit a Queen on the flop but I get the full 'yell-fist-pump-combination' when the king comes on the river. Stay classy, America. These comps are great though, I wish I had time to play more really. Good luck to Ralph, he seemed to be constantly chipping up all day and has more moves than the other players will give him credit for. Not gonna play the $1k today, just chill out and then the $340 tomorrow. When I arrived Tuesday evening there was a $300/$600 FL $25k sit-down Stud game in the back of the cardroom and I spotted Andreas there with Barry Greenstein and a few other high-rollers. I was speaking to one of the dealers the next day and she said that he "didn't do very well" We got chatting in the crazy Friday night game and he said that he lost $200k in the HSP and "never hit one flop" so he couldn't be arsed to play any of the V events after that. Expensive trip for him but he was still great fun to play with. Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: GreekStein on November 16, 2009, 08:32:59 PM gogogogogogo the Shalsonator!!! oh and this.... what happened with hoivoid and the HSP assuming they did a galfond on him No idea Trigg and wtf is a Galfond? On series 2 I think of HSP Phil Galfond was invited and then had to wait all day to get in the game and wasn't able to play a fraction of what he was told he would despite moving $700k cash out there. Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: AndrewT on November 16, 2009, 09:21:52 PM I played yesterday as well and got nowhere. Played three of these so far and managed my best result yesterday of making level 6. Though I didn't buy-in until ten minutes before the end of level 3. Nothing noteworthy - reshipped 99 with 9.5k at 300/600 and other guy had AA.
Reiterating what Floppy said, fields are really tez - on Friday I was the youngest at my starting table by about 30 years. After burning $550 on the deepstack yesterday I went back to the MGM and set fire to $665 playing cash. Seeing as up to that point my cash winnings so far were $664 this now means I'm down a buck. Will go down to rail Ralph later on. Just one minor thing is that I don't have an ITIN thingy although the floorman at the V said that it only takes a day or so to process and there would be no problem retrieving any deduction. Does anyone have any advice for getting one sorted in the next few hours ? Blatant 'I'm going to get the lot in the deepstack' brag post IMO. Thanks also to my blonde railers Floppy, FreeRollin' and AndrewT The old spirit of blonde is still alive and well :) Obviously pretty damn chuffed to have binked a decent score but I was totally knackered yesterday even before the final table started after the fourteen hour+ day one and then another sleepless night but as soon as play started the old adrenaline kicked in and I completely forgot about it. Pretty standard final really, I waited for a couple of the shortstacks to exit and then picked my spots to 3-bet/reshove which worked for a while but i never got any cards to work with. AQ once and 55 were my two best hands while three of the other players went on big heaters finding AA several times each and another guy's TT binked Erik the Skandie's KK. So fifth place for $5500, it feels sooooo good to type that ;sexybanana; Right, I'm off for some brekkie and then back to the V for today's $340, it would be rude not to... Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: Free_Rollin on November 17, 2009, 08:39:28 PM Well Done Ralph!
Also, I don't think I'm going to see you now unless I come down to Venetian for some cash tonight, but basically I got on the phone to Virgin to ask about Upper class upgrades, and managed to get one for £700. So, I'm now off back to the UK tomorrow on upper class, wiiiiiiii ! Downside is that I was going to stay with Dave, Nicky and Tom for a couple of days, but that's not going to happen now... would have been good! Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: NoflopsHomer on November 17, 2009, 10:00:33 PM I did my stack mainly because of 3 hands, am playing 15k having chipped loads in the first 10 minutes thanks to good cards and flops and have a very active image. utg raises to 300 playing about 9.5k, guy to my right flats and I reraise to 1,500 with queens. Passed back to utg who instantly jams all-in. Other guy gets out of the way and I call but he has kings. Knocks me down to 5.5k.
Cutoff limps for 100, small blind makes it 400, I flat Tens and cut-off calls. Flop is 832dd, small blind bets 1k, I call, co folds. Turn is offsuit 7 and he sets me in. I tank and fold, he shows aces. At 75/150 I make it 400 playing about 3.6k from the hijack with KQ. There's an extra 75 in because a new stack came along and 525 of it gets anted into the middle. bb is the only caller, flop comes K87cc, he has checked dark and I bet 625, he makes it 1,600, I jam and he snaps with aces. Marvellous. Gl to the rest of the guys. Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: AndrewT on November 17, 2009, 10:10:37 PM First break about 14k. Was up to 17k but dribbled away. "I laise" said the voice and I turned around to see my old buddy and Liverpool fanatic Pete Costa smiling away as per usual and in his customary good spirits until I mentioned LFC obv. ;)
We both made the first break, me with 16k+ and Pete with a little less and chatted away happily about Pete's new games which really sound like a brilliant idea and I'm sure that he'll hit the jackpot with his new lottery brainwave. Pete went out shortly after the first break and I followed shortly after when I couldn't fold my overpair to a flopped set that could have not have been more obvious had the ice-cream played them face-up. I knew he had a set when he check-raised the flop but instead of folding and leaving myself with 13k(above the starting stack) I made an almost involuntary shove. What a donk. Well at least I got it out of my system and I'm off to play today's $340 donkament hopefully with a little more discipline. GOGOGOGO Dino today. Proposition count thus far: Hookers 3, Drug Dealers 1. Evans, LeKnave, Dino and I then went to the Palms to play Paigow. Obviously Jones' ran like god, especially in the $1 high card we always play. The three of them have gone to see this mini-version of the UFC, the 150lb division I think it is. I'm heading to LA tonight (currently at the Airport) to go on a road trip to San Francisco, before flying back home next Wednesday. Dino is on the same flight so 10 hour session of Chinese on the plane looks like a plan. Anyway good luck to those guys, Ralph and Andrew T in the remaining comps. Had seats in the second level that were central to the octagon. The fellas to the right of us were pretty connected as they were mates with some Armenian guys who were fighting in a couple of the bouts. The title fight was pretty incred, Jones and I flipped for who got to choose their horse first, Jones obv won the flip and picked the defending champ Mike Brown, mostly because he was at one point sponsored by Full Tilt (grease Lederer) so I got the challenger Jose (who I would've picked given first choice). Couple of rounds later Jose had him on the mat and was just battering his head and the ref called the fight over. I think Nicky might be going to UFC on Saturday. Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: AndrewT on November 20, 2009, 07:28:39 AM Another day, another deepstack, another sniff of the money. This time went out about 48th with 36 paid.
Started great - got a couple of hands and ran a big 3-street bluff to get up to nearly triple starting stack by the first break. Had a great table - it was one I knew would be one of the last to break and everytime someone busted they were replaced by an old guy. No restealing or check-raise bluffs or anything like that to contend with - just ABC players thinking about nothing other than their cards. Though I was card dead the rest of the day I resisted the urge to do anything wild - knowing I'd get paid off when I did, such as with AK v AJ getting me a full double up, and also able to get plenty of blind-steals through (including one 4bet button shove with 9s 8h against the SB who was getting annoyed with my button raises and who I knew was the one player who would do a bluff like that) Late on I lost half my stack in a limped pot from the SB when my Ac made a four-flush on the river, which sadly had given the BB a full house with T4. Down to 9BB a new player (who I'd played with a couple of days ago) shoved for more from mid-position. I had 9h 9c and knew he wasn't open-shoving better. He had Ks Qh and hit on the turn to send me to the rail. Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: Free_Rollin on November 21, 2009, 03:04:18 PM Updates please Ralph, Nick and Andrew? Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: Karabiner on November 21, 2009, 07:08:26 PM I played the Deepstack $350 on Wednesday and lasted almost until the dinner-break exiting around 100th, a pretty unremarkable card-famished grind really. The only thing worthy of reporting is that on my starting table sat on my direct left was none other than a rather sleepy("Im a night person")Tom McEvoy. I told him that if I'd known that I was going to be sat next to him I'd have brought along a couple of my books for him to sign. He chuckled good-naturedly and said that he would have happily obliged. An absolute gentleman and a pleasure to spend a couple of hours in his company at the table.
Took a day off from donkaments on Thursday and just did a little shopping stocking up with some new jeans at the Levi's store and played some $1/2 at the V(terrible game) touched base with LeKnave, Nicky and AndrewT and then headed back to home base, The Nugget, and played a little more cash losing small <$100. Went back down to the V yesterday(Friday) for another bash at a $350 but after my AK<AJ crippled me my Qh,Jh ran smack bang into KK and I didn't get the favourable flop that I had been hitting a few days ago. I busted out around 3.30pm which is before the 2nd break. I discovered that there was a $1/2 PLO game running in the salon so plonked $300 on the table to give it a spin. It was a wild and woolley game with a mixture of young lags and older nits, obviously I fall into neither of these groups ;) and there was frequent light 3-betting pre with the likes of QQxx. I originally spun down to about $200 but eventually cashed out $920 at 10pm. The key hand being when I limp 3-bet a button raise to $95 pre-flop holding AAT9 having previously chipped up to c$500 and the flop came down a rather delightful 6,7.8 rainbow and when I led for $200 the ice-cream snap set me in. My str. held and I never saw what he had, kerrrrrching :) The last couple of hours I was sat next to a pretty amazing old guy by the name of Ernie an 84 year-old Holocaust survivor who had been incarcerated in Auschwitz but "didn't like to talk about it at the poker table". He was a fascinating table companion and bright as a button, I hope I get the chance to chat with him again before I leave. I'd better go now as some old bat is moaning behind me that I'm hogging the machine(I'm in the hotel lobby on pay-per-surf). Proposition count: Hookers 4, drug-dealers 1, acceptances 0 Edited post-brekkie as the PC is now old bat-free. Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: AndrewT on November 21, 2009, 08:57:23 PM Sat in the Saturday $550 deepstack on the same table as LeKnave. In level 2, nothing of note yet.
Had a day off from poker yesterday. Broke a pair of sunglasses I'd had for about 36 hours. Had a $200 dinner at L'Atelier Joel Roubachon. Went to see Lewis Black at the Mirage. I've found that the non-poker days after long tourney days really do refresh me Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: NoflopsHomer on November 21, 2009, 09:01:32 PM Back from LA tomorrow night, Lewis Black any good Andrew? I've got a couple of his albums.
Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: AndrewT on November 21, 2009, 09:13:39 PM Lewis Black very good. I didn't realise he was quite so mainstream - audience was a bit more rednecky than I was expecting.
Just won a nice chunk 3-betting KK from the SB v a button raise. Flop is Ace high and he calls my cont bet. Turn is another Ace and we both check. River is blank and I check call his bet and he mucks without showing. Up to 24k from 15k starting stack. Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: AndrewT on November 21, 2009, 10:21:23 PM First break 28k, LeKnave about 20k.

Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: AndrewT on November 22, 2009, 12:42:11 PM Had an enjoyable 8 hour session playing $1/$2 cash at the MGM. Torched one buyin then spun the next $200 up to $1200 before dribbling back to $830 making hero calls.
Big hand was when one guy managed to stick $600 in with AJ on a A726 board against my 77. Toasty life. Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: Karabiner on November 22, 2009, 09:19:59 PM I stayed downtown yesterday and played the Binions 2pm. $110 tourney which has a $10k guarantee and gets just over 100 runners. I chipped up from the 5k starting stack to 8.5k at the first break but went very card-dead for the next session chipping down to around my original 5k. It gets pretty crapshooty after the second break and I 3-bet shoved the opener with AJ of green(see how I'm picking up the lingo?) and got another shove behind. Not a bad spot really as one of them had QQ and the other KK, unfortunately I hit the J instead of the A and it was gg me.
After a refreshing cup of tea in my room in The Nugget(you must put bottled water in the kettle it makes all the difference) I decided to check out the $1/2 games at The Nugget which get pretty damn hairy at the weekends with their unlimited pullup. I sit in the game for a while starting with $300 and have chipped up a little to about $400 when who should arrive on my immediate left but my new buddy Andreas Hoivold who told me last Saturday that he was going home on Tuesday. A week is a long time in Vegas and he is now selling his house in Norway and looking to buy something here; I suspect that he has been bitten by the love bug judging by the new twinkle in his eye. Anyhow I digress.. Andreas is on my left and sits down with $1k. On Andreas' left is a wily Chinese guy who goes by the handle of "Bruce Lee" and always sits at least $2k deep and generally likes to cover the table. It's my BB and Andreas straddles of course for $4(this is his first hand remember) there are a few limpers including Bruce and Andreas raises to $30. Bruce snap-shoves his $2k and Andreas snap calls his $1k, all of this happening slightly slower than the speed of light ! Bruce tables KQo and Andreas shows 33 which hold for a tasty first pot of the evening. I got lucky in the game when I called a small raise on the button with 63 of green and the flop came 2, 5, 9 rainbow which was checked around. On the turn along came the 4h smoking a pipe for a sweet nutshot(I just made that term up) and the guy who was slow-playing his set of 555 paid the full penalty by grtting felted, kerrrrrching :) I decided to leave the game around 12.30am as I was a little tired and the game was seriously volotile. I must just say what a splendid fellow Andreas is, always in good humour even after a bad loss. I like him a lot and hope that things work out well for him here. I was going to play the super-sat for the V's ME today although I'm coming home on Tuesday as you can sell the lammers if you win but I had a restless night after following Kinboshi's "Beginners' Guide to Sushi" and sampling a sashimi of Toro which tasted delicious but kept me awake all night virtually. I'm going down to the V now to see if there's any Omaha and to mingle and hopefully rail a little. Proposition count: Hookers 5, Drug Dealers 1, acceptances 0. Managed to do pretty much sweet FA on my last full day in Vegas. Didn't wake up till 1.30pm and it was 5pm before I ventured out of my room.
At 11pm I finally got myself sat down in a cash game and managed to pick up $400 after one rivered straight vs KK, one flopped full house with KJ and one 'please please please fold' bluff with the nut low of 45 on a T239J board. Been a fun trip - the final scores on the doors were +$838 for cash and -$2520 for tournaments (with two near misses). The Venetian deepstacks really are awesome and I would thoroughly recommend anyone who has any idea of how to play a tournament to give them a go. Found a decent bar on my last day in Vegas called the Yard House In the Town Square shopping centre, $10 taxi ride from MGM. Reckons it has the biggest selection of draft beers in the world. Can't believe that but it had a cracking choice and was a nice change from the Casinos. I know Dave has been missing his Boddingtons. http://townsquarelasvegas.com/dining.html?sobi2Task=sobi2Details&catid=14&sobi2Id=115 Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: NoflopsHomer on November 24, 2009, 01:36:52 AM Oh yeah, Yardhouse is awesome. There's a good club around there too, forgot the name. Evans has gg-ed the ME. Jones grinding between Nenad Medic and Steve Jelinek with 22k. I'm off to play cash.

Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: Karabiner on November 24, 2009, 03:34:41 AM I was waiting for the duece bus to arrive downtown this afternoon as I was about to make my way to the V to rail the boys and eat some Chinese food at my favourite Asia Noodles when i saw a grizzled old black guy who was obviously down on his luck as he was sitting on one of those stone benches near the bus-stop and asking for spare change in a gravelly tone that Louis Armstrong would have been proud of. Everybody was ignoring him but I had 50c in my pocket and quietly slipped it into his hand and then joined the back of the queue.
The bus arrived and I got my $7 ready in my hand with the $5 bill on top to buy my all day ticket and the old black guy was still sitting on the bench, as I went past him he enquired in the same gravelly tone almost sotto-voce "got a spare five?". Just a quiet day for me today although I'm about to play some cash at The Nugget and have a few glasses of wine so minor fireworks are not totally out of the question as I think Andreas is still around. Coming home tomorrow evening on the BA flight which leaves here at 8.30pm and I will be bringing a couple of Cantor's finest corned beef sandwiches to sustain me rather than subject myself to the inedible muck that BA calls food. I've had a really great time here even though it was a solo trip this time but I've just about had enough and as always will be pleased to get back to my cosy little flat and sleep in my own bed; it won't be long now.. Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: Dingdell on November 24, 2009, 10:40:33 AM Sat in the Saturday $550 deepstack on the same table as LeKnave. In level 2, nothing of note yet. Had a day off from poker yesterday. Broke a pair of sunglasses I'd had for about 36 hours. Had a $200 dinner at L'Atelier Joel Roubachon. Went to see Lewis Black at the Mirage. I've found that the non-poker days after long tourney days really do refresh me Andrew - what did you think of the dinner - was it the one at the MGM? I went there for new years eve a few years back and was bedazzled by phony French waiters and gold leafed plates and fruit. That sounds like the full-fat 3 Michelin star restaurant - I was at the 1 star one next door - the one where you sit at the counter. Food was pretty incred - nine courses (all basically two mouthfuls on a plate). All kinds of fancy stuff. Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: paddyjim on December 02, 2009, 08:19:31 PM Hey Ralph
Nice to meet you a few times in Vegas. I think you forgot to post about how you tried to chat up the mother / daughter combination in the airport bar, and then threw up on the flight home... Probably just slipped your mind ;-) Take care Patrick Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: Colchester Kev on December 02, 2009, 08:40:00 PM Hey Ralph Nice to meet you a few times in Vegas. Probably just slipped your mind ;-) Take care Patrick Well thanks for that Patrick, and you semed like such a pleasant fellow too.. I've not been the same since I had those couple of glasses of wine with that young lady at the airport, I must have picked up some kind of bug, not via the mile-high club either (although it might have been an option ::)) as I've hardly been out nor eaten much since I got back home. I made myself some chicken soup today which as many will know cures everything so i'm hoping to make an appearance at DTD at some point this weekend. Hopefully I'll see you there ;nemesis; Title: Re: Quick Vegas Update Post by: tikay on December 03, 2009, 12:22:18 AM Just caught up with this - great read Ralph, (& AndrewT's), proud of you.
