I guess the technology on a 3G phone is just as good? Can you get as good a tarrif as 15GB for £15/mo on a phone package? Title: Re: 3G Dongle - good deal? (unlimited = limited, but I nothing I would get near with occasional use). I can wireless tether using my phone, but there are a few reasons I could do with a dongle. One, in one of the places I would use the dongle I get crap reception on my phone (through T-mobile). I know 3 works OK there. Secondly, I will be able to claim back some (or possibly all) of my dongle expense. Title: Re: 3G Dongle - good deal? The offer I linked through to gives 15GB, which is probably far more than I'll need but it's nice to have just in case. I know someone who uses a 3 dongle in one of the locations where I would use it, and the other would be in London - so I guess it'd be OK there. Other places, I'll have both the dongle and my phone as a backup for a connection. If there are any other deals about, then I'd be interested. Title: Re: 3G Dongle - good deal? Post by: KarmaDope on November 24, 2009, 03:33:03 PM That's one of the best I've seen but I'd only go contract if I was definitely gonna use it heavily every month.
Ju and I have a 3 dongle at home for backup and its great for use as long as you're not downloading or streaming. Web/Skype/Poker is all fine. Title: Re: 3G Dongle - good deal? Thanks to Kinbo First thing you need to do is get root access to your phone, which is difficult to 'maintain' unless you're a geek (like me). Actually, I think that there might be tethering apps for non-rooted phones, i'll have a look. I'm sure you've done a search on the market already though? http://www.junefabrics.com/android/ There's that app, but it's $29 for the full version... Title: Re: 3G Dongle - good deal? It works very differently to the iphone. But I guess there's still a risk of the superuser access being abused by someone. Title: Re: 3G Dongle - good deal? NEVER EVER EVER BUY A DONGLE FROM 3G! ty gd nite this i bought a couple of dongles from 3 as a 'backup' for a customer of mine. the thinking was that if their business broadband went down, we could deliver a dongle to use for a couple of days until the problem was resolved. out of 16 sites, the dongle worked in 2. the rest of them got such poor coverage Title: Re: 3G Dongle - good deal? Post by: kinboshi on November 24, 2009, 05:11:00 PM OK, so which network gives a better service?
Title: Re: 3G Dongle - good deal? Post by: yorky34 on November 24, 2009, 07:21:12 PM i use t mobile dongle and coverage seems ok but can be quite slow during peak times and also if i go over my 3gb limit they slow it right down and cant watch videos or download betweenn 4 and midinight
