Final Turbo heat and two semi-finals from Tuesday on Sky Sports The Full Tilt Poker Million VIII reaches its conclusion on Sky Sports this week, with the second turbo heat and two semi-finals preceding Friday’s live final at 7.30pm on Sky Sports 2 where the winner will walk away with $500,000. Tuesday’s Turbo heat gives six more runners-up from the second-half of the 12-heat tournament the chance to claim the final spot in the second semi-final. The turbo airs at 10.15pm on Sky Sports 2 with Gus Hansen, Antonio Esfandiari, Christian Harder, Bradley Craig, Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Michael Tureniec the half-dozen hoping to claim the last place in the semis. Online qualifier Peter Vasiliou won the first Turbo heat to join Annette Obrestad, Luke “Full Flush” Schwartz, Nam Le, two-time finalist Tony Bloom and Paul Zimbler in the first semi-final, which is on Wednesday night at 9pm on Sky Sports 3. Tuesday’s Turbo winner will join WSOP final tableist James Akenhead, online sensation Tom “Durrrr” Dwan, Taylor Caby, four-time WSOP bracelet winner David Chiu, Dag Martin Mikkelsen and Daniel Bowden in the second semi-final on Thursday night at 9pm on Sky Sports 3. “The Poker Million final is always one of the most exciting dates for the poker diary,” said Eddie Hearn, managing director of Matchroom Sport. “We staged poker's first ever live televised final back in 2000 and since then it's been an event that all the top players want to take down. With the likes of Tom Dwan, Nam Le, Luke Schwartz, Annette Obrestad, Juha Helppi and James Akenhead in the semi finals, Friday night is set to be an electric night of poker." Would love to see a combination of durrr, Full Flush Annette and Gus at the final. Would be good to see Full Flush against more of the big players live as his Late Night Poker final performance left a lot to be desired. Luke Schwartz 397k James Akenhead 338k Taylor Caby 202k Dag Martin Mikkelsen 160k Peter Vasiliou 154k Juha Helppi 149k 'Online qualifier' 100k The last time I got even remotely excited for this was the one where Marty Smyth finished second to Joe Beevers. Blue Square, Paddy Power and Skybet have odds up but they don't know who the online qualifier is. Who is the qualifier? http://www.oddschecker.com/other-sports/poker/other-poker-events/poker-million/win-market There hasn't been much decent hype for this has there? You don't think he's received coaching etc since he made the final? Also, chipleader has less than 40bbs. He has 15. Doesn't have to play every pot now. Title: Re: Full Tilt Poker Million VIII semi and final on Sky this week Post by: Leatherman on December 04, 2009, 01:21:16 PM I'd not looked at the prices, but can see why you might have a bet on him..
Although I can't see him taking it down, but in a way I hope he does.. Gives us all hope.. Lol looking forward too watching it... Title: Re: Full Tilt Poker Million VIII semi and final on Sky this week Post by: TightEnd on December 05, 2009, 09:52:54 AM James Akenhead finished a great year in which he finalled both the WSOP and WSOPE main events, finishing ninth in each, with a win in the live Poker Million VIII final sponsored by Fulltiltpoker.Com. As he said on the Sky broadcast, this meant he final tabled in his three biggest buy in events in 2009.
Akenhead won $500,000 for first place after he beat Juha Helppi heads-up for the title. Taylor ‘Greenplastik’ Caby was the first player out when his 77 was outdrawn by Dag Martin Mikkelsen's K4 in a blind on blind confrontation, Caby having pushed and Mikklesen making the call. Free roll qualifier Pete Vasiliou was then eliminated, shoving A9 into the pocket Jacks of Mikkelsen. Online qualifier Craig Wakeham fell in 5th, losing a race his 77 against Helppi’s A10, Ace on the flop Luke Schwartz was out in 4th, he won a massive pot against Akenhead 99 v AJ but then the situation reversed. Akenhead pushed A7s, Schwartz called with 88 and they saw the action-tastic flop of 9s 8c Ts The turn brought a spade, the river didn't pair and Schwartz was down to the felt. His Ace-five then lost to Mikklesen's Norweigan’s KQ, King on the flop and the turn. Mikkelsen was out in 3rd when Helppi raised with AQ, Mikklesen pushed with 33, Helppi called and turned an Ace Despite taking a lead into Heads-Up which soon became a 2-1 chip lead, Akenhead brought it back and then found 10 10 against Helppi's 66 to scoop the title. Full Tilt Poker Million VIII Final Result 1 James Akenhead $500,000 2 Juha Helppi $250,000 3 Dag Martin Mikkelsen $200,000 4 Luke Schwartz $150,000 5 Craig Wakeham $100,000 6 Pete Vasiliou $75,000 7 Taylor Caby $50,000 Title: Re: Full Tilt Poker Million VIII semi and final on Sky this week Post by: sweet potata! on December 05, 2009, 01:03:58 PM Watching this last night, i was thinking that Akenhead was the image of some sports star and i just couldnt think who at all, it was tilt inducing.
