Title: Shootout advice
Post by: Pyso on December 11, 2009, 09:15:17 PM
My local pub has asked me to organise a Christmas weekend poker tournament. For some reason I said yes, and for some other odd reason I suggested a shootout structure.

So what do I do when some tables reach a winner (well, we'll do top three on each 'cos it'll only be a small gig) before other tables -  in other words what do I do with regards to final table blind structure?

Thanks.

Shoot outs suck dude. Why not just run a normal MTT?

Just reset the blinds and stacks on the final table.

Lol when I read the first line, I was pretty sure OP was going tell us a story about a dodgy Nottingham pub where they had been some bullets flying.

On a serious note this a bad idea. You will get some tables taking a lot longer than others, therefore people still in hanging around doing nothing. Also the whole tourney will take longer.

Surely this is good for a pub? Less poker and more drinking is what they want.

If you have tables of 9 why not have position 4-6 and 7-9 all go in to their own separate comp for some kind of booby prize? Obv depends on numbers, maybe just have the top 3 comp and another for the rest.

Make the structure really fast so that the first round lasts no more than 60 mins. Final needs to be the same. Try to get a couple of breaks in so that players can go to the bar and get slammed.

If they want a serious comp with a good structure tell them to go to DTD.

You are probably right, one of the reasons I don't play pub poker, as it would send me on life tilt.

I don't really get this point. surely it'll take as long as it's structured to take

Well you are right but there will be less play within those hours, so if you had the same blind structure for a shootout vs standard mtt. The shootout will take longer.

Yes, but to what? Do I jump in at the level the last table to finish were on or do I start right from the start again? Lol, not sure really. Never played in one before but they do sound fun in principle.

The pub don't care about how long it takes - they want an early start on a Sunday. A £5 rebuy with the emphasis on Marston's Pedigree I feel ...

start again at level 1 with equal stacks

you can keep the starting stacks for the final the same as the first table or increase them if you want the final to have more play
