Title: South Africa vs England Test Match Series 09/10
Post by: Longy on December 16, 2009, 01:43:26 AM
Weeeeeeeeeee the return of proper cricket.

Should be a good series, with England showing good form on the tour so far and not being the normal shambles they seem to be on tour. A good showing by England in the series would put us back near the top of the world game, for the first time since the glory period of 04-05 under Vaughan.

Just gotta get some sleep for the early start, it is rather selfish of them to have these games start at a ridic hour (830 am fwiw).

don't suppose it's on real tv? it's the only sport that the streaming sites probs won't show since the ecb tried to shut them all down during the ashes

Have just upgraded to sky sports mostly for this.
Sure haven't got a 15 hour day at work today, meaning i'll see zilch of opening days play.

There for England to win as long as they play positive cricket

On a scale of 1-10, how profitable is Cricket trading for you Blatch?  Also, is it one of the easier sports to trade?

Certainly one of the easiest but for me personally the prices dont move quickly enough.

I tend to trade the first session and then the last day if there are chances of 2 different results or more, with nothing in between.

Wow!

Great test match.

I said to someone at about 1 o'clock, there could be a twist when they take the new ball. The same happened yesterday, Amla had batted all day without looking in any trouble, then when we took the new ball he got an unplayable delivery.

Great afternoon with one eye on that finish!

Concerns about Cook and Bell, I reckon they'll drop Bell and play a fith bowler from here

it means that flintoff used to be a talismanic figure who got lots of runs and wickets but now he's retired and broad is taking over that role

Post by: nirvana on December 29, 2009, 02:26:11 PM
Broad is good, but, imo, you could take him out of this team and replace him with players that are nearly as effective. Just for the time being at least, Swann is pretty much irreplaceable in this team

Title: Re: South Africa vs England Test Match Series 09/10
Post by: gatso on December 29, 2009, 02:30:56 PM
Swann is pretty much irreplaceable in this team

absolutely. today he became the first spinner to take 50 wickets for england in a calender year. that pretty much sums up how important his bowling is. add in a 35+ batting average over that period and you have an amazing player

This suprised me.is this coz we never had great spinners or is that a lot of wickets in a year it doesn't seem it for the amount of games they play ???

He's class though but a definitly think broad deserves his place in the team

Title: Re: South Africa vs England Test Match Series 09/10
Post by: gatso on December 29, 2009, 07:39:13 PM
a combination of things I guess. we don't prepare pitches to take spin, prefer them to be suited for seamers so that'll have a big impact on it plus 50's just not easy to get. warne managed it a fair few times I'd imagine but still averaged under that (700 in 15 years)

Looked a like a good bet Tighty, but lo and behold Bell has dug in today. Think even he goes now England will hold on.

Collingwood has been immense again today, probably the England player I have most respect for, as he has gone a long way on limited talent.

Saw a statistic today which said that Collingwood is the only player in the history of Test cricket who has a better batting average in games his team have lost than his average in games they won.

TMS without a censor. Rude, funny, biased.

Thought I would check this out and what are they talking about, Vicky Coren. Spooky as her pic flashed up in the PokerStars banner ad.

Yes we've underperformed and don't deserve a thing this match but it is nice to see this

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/england/8462304.stm

Harper has long been inept and it is said he did not turn the sound up on his TV to hear a snick that was clearly audible on the replay

For that matter, the umpire missed it from 22 yards away

Snith claimed "the noise could have been the bat twisting in my gloves"!

LOL at the photo on that page - you can see the umpire palming what I assume is a crisp 200 Rand note than Graeme Smith gave him*

* this may not be true

I think this shows why the referral system is kind of pointless - if they're all gonna cheat a bit and not walk then the game is imperfect - so just let the umpiring be imperfect as it always has been - what does it really matter ? England will look like extreme cry babies if they follow this protest through - its just ridic

What a joke of an umpire Darryl Harper is. He has made numerous mistakes this series while in the middle. Now we have a situation where he is reviewing a potential wicket, where the appeal is clearly for caught behind. In what world does he not think it turning the volume up on the equipment might be a good idea.

To be frankly honest I think he should be taken off the international panel of umpires for pure incomptence.

He's said on his facebook that the volume being turned down isn't true. Apparently the feed the South African TV company gave him didn't have the sound on it. Hoggad was commentating and apparently said "that's not out there is no sound". Harper reviewed and gave the same decision and then the South African TV company found the footage that Sky had been playing with the sound and Harper was blamed for not hearing it.
It's messed up whatever happened.
