Yes, whatever the context - it's definitely off, and probably highly dangerous.

Send it to me and I'll dispose of it properly for you.

Does Rum go off?

in a word bobby, No.

I asked Wikiasnwers for you and this is what i got

Q: Do alcoholic beverages have an expiration date?

A: That depends on the type of beverage. Spirits don't go bad. In fact, many improve in the bottle, even ones that have been opened. I recently came into possession of five bottles of Scotch, one of them dating to WWII, a Haig & Haig Five Star with the silk-screened lettering on the bottle. It was as good, if not better, than the day it was bottled.

Other spirits -- gin, vodka, brandy, various whiskeys, rum, tequila, etc. -- do not go bad.

cheers Dave, I dont drink but won a bottle of rum in a raffle about 2 years ago, ive just dug it out of the 'drinks cardboard box in the Celler' and it has on the side of it   LS010290, I was wondering if that might be a sell buy date and If I would be better off buying a new one instead of potentially poisoning the familty for the sake of 14 quid ;o)

cheers guys

Anything that is in essence clear (or translucent) like gin, vodka, rum etc will be fine. The problem starts with the opaque spirits, like Bailey's etc as a vast majority of these are cream based and will spoil.

The best solution is treat all spirits as "Best Before End of Tonight", or just call Claw, Joobs and JonMW ;)
