Title: Headphones Post by: brummieboy on December 25, 2009, 03:49:39 PM I received Monster Beats by Dr. Dre High Definition Studio Headphones off the wife today, a lovely surprise present I wasn't expecting.
The music quality is great and they are ultra comfy and I can hear no outside noise however everyone can hear everything i'm listening to, just read a couple of reviews and they say they are not proficient at noise canceling, sound leaks out of headphones. Therefore think i'm going to have to take them back and exchange them as main use will be at the poker table next year. Can anyway offer advise on best high-end headphones please, thanks in advance for your help. Title: Re: Headphones Post by: NoflopsHomer on December 25, 2009, 03:59:53 PM Bose FTW - I prefer QuietComfort 2 to QuietComfort 3 (Bigger headphones)
Title: Re: Headphones Post by: brummieboy on December 25, 2009, 04:42:43 PM Cheers Floppy just seen Bose have Quiet comfort 15 out which looks good, am I correct in thinking their should be no noise output coming out of the high end headphones even at quite high volume.
Really like the DR Dre headphones just can't believe how much noise leaks out. Title: Re: Headphones Post by: rex008 on December 26, 2009, 10:35:46 AM You have to look for "closed" or "closed back" headphones, for less noise leakage. Just because you pay a lot for high end headphones doesn't mean they will be closed - you get both types at all price points.
I've owned 2 pairs of Sennheiser HD280s (http://www.iheadphones.co.uk/headphones/19824/Sennheiser+HD280+Black.htm). Bought second pair after first pair wore out, exclusively for watching DVDs on a long train commute I no longer do. Very good noise insulation, very little leakage to bother other people, and superb sound quality. Bose - hmm. Spend vastly more on marketing than on product development, that's all I'll say ;). So good quality, and definitely really comfy! I don't think mine leak noise, although I will put them on high volume and check for you, just incase yours are a faulty pair.
The company Monster cable are great too, I told them that I had a problem with my cable after very much use, and they sent me a new one free of charge, recorded delivery! If however, you are sure you don't want to keep the beats, then I guess Bose is the only other pair I would really consider. Difference between QC2's and QC3's are a matter of opinion. I love the Beats headphones but it just doesn't leak a bit of noise, I can have my Ipod touch on half volume and you can clearly here what I'm playing over the other side of the room. If it's a faulty pair I'd be pleased as they are great in every other way. Will test another pair before looking at other makes to ensure it wasn't just mine. Let me know if you notice any leak from yours. Will be going to replace/exchange it on Monday. Title: Re: Headphones Post by: RED-DOG on December 26, 2009, 08:23:44 PM I bought some Sennheiser in ear headphones. Noise insulation is excellent, and leakage is virtually non existant.
Argos. £40, reduced to £20. Title: Re: Headphones Post by: AndrewT on December 26, 2009, 11:14:22 PM Last week I got a pair of Sennheiser pxc 350s from play.com for £90 - bargain.

I just tested my Beats, and when the room was dead quiet, you could hear what was playing when no one is wearing them, but this is pretty obvious. When however, I wore my Beats, I asked somone if they could hear what I'm listening to during normal background noise, and they couldn't hear anything. I bought my headphones mainly for poker use, and I haven't had anyone complain to me about them being able to hear my music. I would definitely consider going for an exchange, and see how a new pair work out for you. Plus, the beats look pretty sick and Elky has a pair! (obviously saw me wearing them and got some) Title: Re: Headphones Post by: Sack it off on December 27, 2009, 05:32:16 PM Why is noise insulation such a big thing?
When I'm playing poker I always have to have one ear off anyway to hear what peoples bet amounts are, whether its just a call or a raise etc. Title: Re: Headphones Post by: sofa----king on December 27, 2009, 07:38:21 PM bose=the best
Title: Re: Headphones Post by: rex008 on December 27, 2009, 08:43:06 PM bose=the best I hope that's a level ... http://www.intellexual.net/bose.html Admittedly, that link doesn't mention the headphones, but reading that, do you really expect the headphones to be a different kettle of fish? Title: Re: Headphones Post by: NigDawG on December 28, 2009, 02:02:31 AM tbh poker rooms have quite alot of background noise what with chatter and chip riffling so the noise leakage from monster beats goes unnoticed at the table, obv go change them for the apple exclusive white pair if you get a chance tho!
Title: Re: Headphones Post by: Sack it off on December 28, 2009, 09:29:09 AM Ohh I see, so this noise cancellation/insulation stuff is all about keeping noise in than keeping noise out
Makes so much sense now Title: Re: Headphones Post by: Scottish Dave on December 28, 2009, 10:22:02 AM Fuck that £279 for a pair of head phones!!!!!
you can get a pair in Argos for £20 Title: Re: Headphones Post by: rex008 on December 28, 2009, 01:56:09 PM Ohh I see, so this noise cancellation/insulation stuff is all about keeping noise in than keeping noise out Noise insulation and cancellation are different things.Makes so much sense now Insulation is about keeping the music sounds in, and the external sounds out. Closed back headphones will be best at both, but you'll probably get better quality sound from open backs at the same price point (the drivers don't have to work so hard with open backs). Cancellation is an active technology that has a small mic on the outside of the headphones. A bit of electronics then adds the same background sounds into what the headphones are playing, but exactly out of phase, thus cancelling the external sounds out. This can work quite well, but it's very dependent on what external sounds there are. Title: Re: Headphones Post by: paulhouk03 on December 28, 2009, 02:07:48 PM I got a pair of bose inear headphones

http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/hi-fi-and-audio/headphones/b-and-w-p5-684830/review Mmmmmmm. Tasty. Same company that makes these: http://www.bowers-wilkins.co.uk/display.aspx?infid=1729 Only £35k/pair (may be more these days). I've owned B&W speakers at home for >10 years. Currently on an old pair of 805 Matrix as my main stereo pair. They make truly superb quality stuff. Title: Re: Headphones Post by: Cf on September 14, 2010, 06:53:42 PM I actually like the standard apple earphones when playing poker. I like being able to listen to music and still hear what is going on around the table. For everything else tho I prefer decent ones.
Title: Re: Headphones Post by: TheChipPrince on October 06, 2010, 03:51:29 PM Apologies if I've missed them on the thread already, but need some decent ones, only for while on the computer at home, but for fairly long spells so comfort essential.
Like the idea of wireless, but is quality poor? £50-£70 ideally to spend, thanks. Title: Re: Headphones Post by: Tractor on January 13, 2011, 09:01:06 AM Dre Beats rivals??
