If it's that bad, then yes, it will be worth it :)

Do it overnight

But always make sure that you have absolutely NOTHING running in the background, otherwise it will just keep going back to 1% and NEVER finish.

And make sure that you have at least 25% free space on the hard drive so the computer has space to shuffle things around. If you try and defrag a hard drive which is nearly full, we'll all be like Tikay by the time it's done.

It only requires 15% free space to run a defrag  ;)

Only when you don't know how to use it.

Whats the easiest way to stop everything running in the background before i defrag??

I normally shut off the internet, shut off the anti-virus and firewall, then do a Ctrl, Alt & Del to check nothing else is running.  Easiest was is to just exit everything that is in the sys tray I find.  (Sys tray bottom right hand corner of task bar).  Where your clock is and your MSN man sits.

Thanks Trace, will do it tonight. Computer is running so slow at the moment, i really need to dump a lot of stuff prior to the defrag.

So does yours when your at Uni, but I don't moan.

If it is annoying anyone, it's not my fault it's the University server booting me out and logging me back in, all I can suggest is that weekdays between the hours of 8:30am and 5pm you block me!

Ummm, thats really strange, as I have only signed into the one in Uni once in the last 5 1/2 months!

And keep you're hair on, I didn't believe it was a moan, there is an LOL at the end you know!

Whatever!

I've now blocked you on MSN, seemed pointless having you on there as we never speak on it.  And for the record it was only in the past two weeks or so that you were pinging in and out every 5 mins.

Problem sorted now anyway!

LOL, we must of done it at the same time. as i said before I have barely been on MSN the last 6 months ish at Uni, and that was 2 weeks ago, on Wednesday, between 12:30 and 1:30. so couldn't of pinged that much :dontask:  I've been off with ill children since then.....

Do I take it from the tone of you're replies that you also have a problem with me now too? In fact, no need to reply, I think it speaks for itself.

It's freezing up here in Glasgow. A real lazy wind (you know, the type that goes straight through you instead of going round - and yes - I know it saves a lot of distance with me)

No problem whatsoever, it's just that my MSN has done this at work for years, and everyone that gets sick of it knew to block me between 8:30am and 5pm.  You coulda just pinged me on MSN and said something instead of posting it here!
