Title: £2000 added - Gala Leeds last night
Post by: SirPerceval on December 29, 2009, 10:12:08 AM
Views please.

£20 + 1 rebuy/add on. 5000 chips starting stack. 20 minute blinds. 174 runners. £2000 added by Gala.

Blinds are 1k/2k. I have c40k. Villan as slightly more. About 65 players left in with several sitting on short stacks. I have not long moved table so have limited information on this player. He hasn't been very active.

Villan min raised in mid position. I have  Ac 4c in late position and flat call.

Flop  Ahrt 8h 2d

He checks, I bet 7k. He thinks for over a minute and calls.

Turn  3d

He checks again. I shove the rest (about 30k)

General comments welcome but particularly -  what range would you put him on post flop?

Stu I don't think you deep enough to take a flop with this hand. I would personally fold pre but now you're here I don't mind the way you've played it although you're probably never getting called by worse on the turn (unless of course it's late, villian is a donko and has a flush draw)

pretty much this - with regard to your hand and the action

however you have 20bbs at gala in leeds - with no antes playing! - you arent doing too bad - but not deep enough to be play playing Ax

Don't think you want to be calling 10% of your stack with A-rag either. Especially because the only info you have is villain seems pretty tight. I would definitely check behind on the flop. If villain is checking this flop he either has you crushed or he hates the Ace. Either way betting serves little purpose. Happy to bet the turn if he checks again though. The way you've played it you're now actually jamming the turn....and cos villain has you crushed or hates the Ace you make it easy for him to stack you if he's strong and easy for him to fold if he's weak.

You didnt make the 10 way chop then ?

On hindsight I agree folding pre was the best play. I did sense weakness after the flop and thought he was on a draw or didn't like the Ace as he had 1010 or JJ etc.

If he has 1010 or JJ or a draw you are a massive fav on the turn so shoving on this street and forcing him to fold is a bad thing.

I'm not too keen on the way the hand has been played. Isn't this one of the probs of playing raggy aces in the first place. I don't think it's a strong enough hand to want to be getting them all in with.
When he calls your flop bet i would be a little bit worried. I too think it's a big overbet on the turn.
I wouldn't rule out A2, A4, a flush draw, or some other ace. If i was a gambling man i'd have a bet on 22 though.

I'd be a nit and fold pre. But given the action post flop you don't seem to have done much wrong, when hes thinking for a minute though I'm not sure what this means, maybe hes considering a raise? maybe hes considering a fold? tough one to know without actually being their to witness the hand.

well once he's tanked called you... In gala that means i'm gonna slowroll you all 3 streets then show you the absolute nuts... So check the turn... Check/fold the river...

Good point Cos, in hindsight we still have 15bbs and checking back the turn might be slightly better than shoving and folding out all the hands we beat and getting called by all the hands that beat us. I guess when the double flushdraw arrives on the turn and we make a wheel draw aswell as top pair it seems weak to check this turn, but I think the main leak in this hand is the call preflop.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Most agree that folding pre was the better play and I thought this myself - but only after making the call :(

For the record he tanked for ages and called with AQo, no flush draw.

I don't understand the logic behind the pre flop or call or the turn shove, apart from that it was perfect :D

IMHO, check back turn, re-assess river. Most probably snap a small river bet, not sure about anything bigger than the flop bet though...

Otherwise, fold pre.
