Hello all,

Looking for a little advice if possible, I'm with Virgin at the moment and want to move away from them as they are truly awful, they charge me £72 a month for XL package (all channels except movies&sports) broadband (10meg) and phone (just line rental) i also opted to add sky sports.  I know a few people on here got sky sorted but I forget who did it for everybody, all I really want is Sky sports, a plus box and broadband.  Just wanting to put the feelers out before I go looking for those people that knock on your door asking you to change!!

Any help would be much appreciated, I miss sky more than having a full head of hair!!

I have sky, with all 6 variety packs, Sky Movies, Sky Sports, ESPN, Sky+HD and Multiroom all for less than that price.

I tried 3 times to get through with the code you gave me before but was put on hold for 20 minutes each time and got bored waiting.

Not complaining or surprised about the long wait because it was a great offer I' m just a bit peeved that I didn't get it.

In reply to OP I get the same virgin package as you but without the sport and it's £46.

You could ring Virgin and ask for customer retention then say you're leaving if they don't reduce it significantly. Worth a try.

If you can get a good Sky deal though then that's better but try to keep your Virgin broadband. It's loads better.

Sky broadband comes free, and I never have any problems with mine. Well, I pay £5, I think, for the faster connection, but it's still more than adequate.

Is this including all sports? If it does think I'll be phoning them too as pay £72 for XL Telly broadband phone and Sky Sports on Virgin :(

i had a uy come to a flat i was renting for £120  he gave me a virgin box plugged it all in and i have all sports movies everything for free,.,.,you can have it for £100 if you want i dont use it anymore ive just move to a place that has skyplus.,.,.,oooo hang on i just remembered he also gave me a router and a modem for £50,this also gave me the internet too,,,,,he did not promise the internet thingy would work because of the area ect,,,but yes it did.,.,.,.,no monthly payments ever again...,.,

Sky Talk Unlimited & Line Rental - £16 (free UK & International calls 24/7 excluding mobiles and 08 numbers)

If you go with Sky for the phone you can keep your number and you won't have to do anthing to change over.  Sky handle it all for you.

They are currently doing an refer a friend offer where you get £50 M&S vouchers if you take the offer up before 3rd Feb.  If you want a referral let me know.  I was with Virgin and Sky are miles better.  The Sky+ box is the dogs bollocks !

Only complaint i have with Sky is you cannot get a Sky plus box with their freeview.

They should change this.

sky are thieving ##### when it comes to businesses, killing off bars and pubs everywhere with their joke prices!

depends if you go to a pub to drink/eat/chat or watch TV..

there are pubs that cater for both so dont get your point

If you inform that you are actually running a charitable organisation they may do something.

tried that route with the local council too regards rates but to no avail. feels sometimes like we are a charily lol but it is supposed to be a profit making business!

Most of the pubs around us took the decision it was not finacially worth it keep sky TV in, they moved away from trying to attract the football crowd and it seemed to work for them. If a bar/pub/club needs sky sports live events to keep going then their is something wrong with their business model.

Sorry Mate was being smart, some seem to forget Sky is a business and our first responsibility is to the shareholders etc.

I expect you are getting hammered as our prices are based on rateable values iirc and a snooker club will have quite a bit of floor space. Isn't there another pricing model they can apply for the likes of you (serious question this time :) )

the problem for us is that we only choose to show the football in an enclosed bar area as obviously snooker players dont want tvs when they are playing.
our bar area is approx 500 sq feet whereas the whole building is  probably in the region of 5000.
sky insist on quoting us based on the whole area even though we have no intention of showing it outsise the bar area.

thats our quandary.

i agree though it doesnt hurt for businesses to explore other avenues to bring in custom for example in our case  football which isnt the sole purpose of our business

Cost wise its cheap to set up, a you get loads of footy.

Only problem is that its slightly dodgy regarding other pubs and that getting pissy as they are paying sky prices etc but if you keep it quiet and dont rub it in there face you should be ok.

My parents have just got a new tv and want to upgrade their existing sky package to HD - are there any deals about?

There is going to be a large push beginning of Feb so if you give me a couple of weeks mate there will hopefully be some staff offers on the back of it. Will give you a shout as soon as i see them launched.

Sports + the basic packs should be from £36 - £41 + ESPN which I think is another £10.

If you get the friends and family discount from a sky employee you can have this for under £45 for the first 12 months.

New customers mate. You could always cancel your Sky (they will offer you some of your packages free for 3 months etc etc) then set it up in your Mrs/flatmate/lodger's name though...

+ £10 for the hd too ?

If you cancel part of a package they have been known to mess up and leave you with a deal that is jaw dropping. Had the full package then cancelled movies and my subs dropped to £10. I was gutted when my equipment broke as i thought they'd notice. Eck set me up with the half price offer and after i had spun my story to cancel (before getting the employee deal) they said they'd give me a new box on the same package as before and it's still a tenner :)

what would the best thing to do with regards to moving?

ATM I have got full sky+ package but I will be moving some time soonish and was wondering what the best way to go about re-newing/upgrading to an HD package when I do eventually move?

can i cancel my existing contract and sign up with new address and new contract??

I would cancel and start again as firstly you may get incentives to stay with them and secondly it's £60 for a house move when it's free to be a new customer.

I moved back in July, and went from Sky+ to HD. They charged me £50 all in (said it was £50 box and free installation, but that's pretty irrelevant). I suspect if I'd have mentioned I was moving to a Virgin cable area (which I was), they might have offered me better than that. Cable for Broadband (20Mb, and none of this "up to" crap either, that's what I'm getting) and Sky for TV. Sorted.

I disagree, I use both regularly and the Virgin service is so much better than Sky, plus they do not charge for extra things like HD.

I also prefer the Virgin+ box the the Sky+ box

There will be other opinion's and each to their own an all that, but i think Sky is the majority choice, and Sky ticks all my box's

Very impressed with the Sky set up.  I wanted to add movies for when The Pacific comes out, so I did it online.  Pressed confirm and got the message saying it was all done, flicked on to a movie channel and it was sorted already.  Technology sometimes does amaze me.  I know it's all automated but it was damn quick.

Got offered the same deal a few days ago. Engineer rang tonight to arrange to do update tomorrow morning. They are also going to move my Sky+ box to the bedroom free of charge. Too good an offer to refuse.

I called them to try to get one of those 250GB HD boxes (currently have the standard 80GB box), tried to wing it for free.

He tried to charge me £149, plus set up fee!!! I dont need it that much!

Am getting HD installed on Sat but as I live in a flat, Sky dont do flats so had to go to an outside contrator and pay £60 for the box!!!!

all that was given was hd 1/2 price for 2 months!! but have taken off movies

Have got BT broadband home hub & (phone which looks better than it works) and am impressed so far with internet and also got a broadband accelerator £1.19 which apparently gives me 1.5mb increase in speed

Got sky hd with all sports and movies for 29 quid per month. Had to pay 25 quid cos i dont have a phone line but happy with it anyway.

Got a couple of mates asking me for codes cos of my gloating! So if you have any spare would be appreciated but if not you are still legend!

And i cancelled the other contract.
