Amir was born in Tehran and is a former Iranian soldier. He came to America as a political refugee. As well as famous for smoking the finest Cuban cigars he was Ben Affleck’s poker tutor after Ben’s then girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, bought poker lessons as a birthday present. Amir’s unpredictable and playful style gained him impressive tournament results with numerous cashes in WSOP and WPT. In 2003 he finished 6th in the WSOP main event for $250,000 and won his only gold bracelet in $1,500 NLH defeating 530 opponents. Amir passed away in Las Vegas on January 8th 2010, age 46, due to complications with his diabetes. Jeff Pollack, former WSOP director, said, “Amir was one of my favorite people in poker…. This is so sad, RIP my friend, your laugh will always be missed!” RIP |
