Title: new to online poker Post by: acc2020 on January 14, 2010, 06:43:24 AM iv played for about 12months in my local casino cardroom mainly small tournies up to £50 and a little cash poker. I would say that im more or less even from poker which i consider quite good.Anyway i got a laptop for christmas and am now able to play online.
I am going to deposit £500 and want to play mainly cash poker. Cos i have limited income this £500 will have to last me till summer ,once its gone its gone.Any got any advice as to what level of stakes i should be playing at. Before you start playing at any online site get yourself rakeback, as this will make quite a bit of difference to your potential profitably.

Since the $500 has to last you all summer and it sounds like you can't deposit again if you go bust I'd probably actually play lower at $0.05/$0.10 and have 50 buy-ins for any given stake. The general consensous is you need 20-25 buy-ins for each level as a minimum. You'll inevitably have several swings where you win/lose several buy ins so you want to allow yourself enough leverage within your bankroll to fade any variance that might occurr via playing bad/running bad/tilt etc... : what is rakeback? A % of every pot in cash games goes to the site. It's normally 5% at a cap of $3 (varies from site to site). Rakeback gives you anywhere between 30% - 50% of what you pay in rake back at the end of each month. Don't think of it like this yet. Some days you'll win, some you'll lose, some you'll crush and some you'll get battered. You need a sample of many thousands of hands played before you can work out your ROI or hourly/ bb/100 etc.. do i look at it as how much i am making per hour or do i just aim for a profit after each session? Just work at playing your best and try not to tilt. Implement a stop loss rule if you can so that if you lose more than 3 buy ins in a single session you quit until the next day but don't aim for a set amount each day. : what is the commission per hand online and is it a significant factor to profitability. Title: Re: new to online poker Post by: pleno1 on January 14, 2010, 09:31:51 AM I think you should start lower, the std of 25nl isn't that bad, and most people who play solely live would struggle to adjust. I think you should staart at 10nl, if you are a winner after 20k hands or whatever then move up.
go round the rooms playing play money and find which site you are comfortable with, for example ipoker tilts me so much, but full tilt / stars software is really good and alot less tilty try and play as many tables as possible, i dont mean as many as your computer will fit, i mean however you feel 100% comfortable with, this may just be 2/3 at first but it's fine, naturally you will become at ease/bored with 2/3 and move up. Download Holdem Manger and use their 30 day trial, if you can afford it then get it if, it will no doubt make you more than the 80$ or whatever. Post hand historys on here, everyone loves getting involved and it will really help you game. Good luck. Paddy.
