Love commentators who make the hairs on the neck stand up, and i'm not even a rugby person, not many about, great man.  RIP

perfect in every way - his attention to detailled preparation on the players was legendary and his one liners classic

was sorely missed when he retired - more so now -- fecking legend

Probably the best commentator I've ever listened to, hugely passionate about the game, and despite his patriotism his comentary was always completely fair and proffessional. Every commentator should be made to study his commentary to learn how it's done (although I don't know if they could all use some of his turn of phrase).

I still think one of the biggest compliments to him was when BBC England brought in their own commentators for Scotland England rugby matches, and the English rugby fans asked for Bill back.
