Title: Poker 425 This Week
Post by: tikay on December 14, 2005, 12:16:32 AM
In the Chair this week is Jonathon Gould, a Chelsea supporter, & we start by doing some reminicing about my last visit to Stamford Bridge. A certain J Greaves was making his debut, the Sillett Brothers were at full-back, & Ted Drake was the Manager. Can't rwcall the date, think it was about 1980.

Filmed Footage from Luton follows, and plenty of natter about that great Final, including mentions for Sir Micky Wernick, Pascal, Gavin Butler, Pascal, Foxy & Denis O'Mahoney, & interviews with all of them. And a few woerds of thanks to all the Luton Staff & Management, indeed Grosvenor generally.

Then we do the Rankings, again, a lot of blathering on, including about a rather odd fact about the top 10 in the Rankings. Name checks for most of the Top 10, plus Thewy & Barry Neville.

Part Two, a Stuart Fox Priofile, & we natter about him for a while, plus namechecks for Junior & At-It Bradley.

And some stuff.

Part One, scheduled in the Running Order for 16 minutes, ran over by 11 minutes! But we pulled some of it back in PartTwo, which was scheduled for 11 minutes, we whipped through that in 14 minutes flat....... He's a bugger for talkling, that Gouldy.

Every night, starting Wednesday, at 11pm, Channel 425.

1980  :blonde:

More like 1957 when Greavsie played for Chelsea.

Don't be silly Karabiner, I was not born in 1957. Your age is distorting your memory.

Just spoken to the Studio, & we have booked a Live Phone-in, to spam this week's show, at around 5pm tonight, give or take 10 minutes.

These Live Phone-Ins are a bit frightening. So far, I have done them from Amsterdam, Blackpool, The Immigration Hall in Moscow Airport, the Co-Op in Ilkeston, (glamorous stuff, this TV Phone-In lark, eh?) &, on three or four occasions, from home, as will be the case today.

When I said I would be doing it from home today, the Producer chappie said "oh good, we prefer it when you are at home, as your cat always howls, & she's more interesting than you".

Well, there you have it. Never work with animals.

So, tune in to "4/5" on Channel 425 at around 5pm today, and listen to Charlie, the Talking Cat, who's more popular than me.

Bugger. I bet Des Lynam never has these problems.

Des Lynam doesn't get old ladies asking him if he's famous & saying they've never heard of him either!!!

Trust you to relate that tale Wormster!

We were filming a link in Bergen, Norway, an open air jobbie, right above the harbour. A cruise ship from Southampton was anchored there, it was a Saga Cruise, all the blue rinses on it were out & about doing the tour bit, & a coachload of them wandered across the set between the camera & me - just as we were filming.

One old biddie stops right in front of me. No teeth, hair permed, plastic pacamac in hand.

"'ere, you on telly?"

Err, yes.

"You're famous aint yer, I've seen yer"

Err, well, not exactly famouus.....

"Yes you are, I've seen yer. Wots 'yer name?"

Michael Parkinson

"No you're not".

Des Lynam

"Never eard of 'im"

Russell Harty.

"Nah, he was aq poofter. Anyway, he's dead I fink, so you cant be 'im".

Well, err, it's Tony tikay Kendall.

"Never 'eard of yer. You're not famous at all. How can you be famous if I aint eard of yer?"

And with that, she shuffled off, chuntering away to nobody in particular, "e's not famous, I've never erd of 'im".....

And with that, we continued flming. "so, here we are in beautiful Bergen, on the banks of the river Hogenstrassguntervermille". At which point old biddy turns round and says "no we are not, it's not called that".

I can't be doing with old people. What was it The Who said?

That's the plan, but I've been a bit pulled out these last 2 months.

I'd intended to get up there in January, but I'm a bit nervous about what kinda reception I will get - you know, I'm told Glasgow is chock full of Scots. And you know what they are like. Funny buggers, I'm told.

err, actually it was tikay & Johnny Gould..........

But yes, the screen "froze", & viewers were treated to the site of both us sat there like statues, cut short mid-sentence. And there we sat, "frozen", for fully 20 minutes.

I rang Wormster, then Clive Lawrence, who's another Producer Chappie Fella bloke.

They rang the Studio, & spoke to the geezer in the Gallery who monitors these things, &, eventually, we were "taken off", so to speak. When Clive spoke to the Gallery, Geezer says "oh, it's only just frozen this minute"........

The show is "made" at a sort of TV Programme Factory in East London, they make dozens & dozens of shows for the Sky platform. A man is employed at night, especially to "monitor transmission quality" - that's TV-speak for making sure the show goes out OK. Given that they have transmitted the wrong show several times, the programme failed to even start twice, & now this, one has to wonder exactly what said man sits & does. He must have been transfixed by the absorbing stuff Gouldy & me were blathering on about.....

A further observation was that the sound quality from Luton was virtually in audable.

Wrong tapes, no sound, and frozen screens it's worth stopping up and losing my beauty sleep for !!!!!!

Yes, I'm afraid Foggy is correct. The sound levels from the Venue Footage were very low, & poor. Sorry about that.

I discussed this with The Wormster, who I flew out here with his morning, & he explained the technical gobbledegook equivelant of "wrong size spanner".

Must try harder.

Despite all the problems it was excellent footage - surprised I wasn't in shot at any time but I understand it would have been distracting for the viewers. Very funny was the bit where the dealers from Luton were throwing cards at each other while an interview was going on in the foreground!
