Post by: Amatay on January 21, 2010, 09:10:54 PM
Right, im in Oz atm and im trying to get online using my brand spanking new lappy and i dont know wtf the deal is with these dongle things?? First off do i need one because i cant get online and have wireless built in?? Secondly how much should i be paying because i dont have a scooby and feel like im being ripped off. Been in a couple of shops to enquire and they are saying $90 for actual dongle and then $30 per month for 1 GB... HOWEVER, im also being told that 1 GB aint enough to play poker and i need like 17 GB or summat which will cost shit loads. Is one GB enough? Please help, im sooo fkin dumb when it comes to this stuff, tyty

1 Gb is tons for poker and surfing. Just don't do anything more than that, you tube, porn etc

I pay £15 per month in the UK

http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/mobilebroadband/mobile-broadband-prepaid.htm doesn't look too bad or all that different from UK tariffs.

1Gb will last for for 100 hours or thereabouts of poker. Surfing will hammer that.

Also check they don't want to tie you into a contract or anything, they often do.

You sure? I never used to use more than 1 Gb when I used mine a lot.

Most sites I've monitored use approximately 5Mb/hour which would mean 1Gb would last 200 hours. Add in a fudge factor for multi-tabling and 100 to be on the safe side seems about right IMO.

YMMV.

Youtube will eat your allowance. I bought a dongle from T-mobile whilst I was waiting for Virgin to sort out my home net and used it to listen to the live WSOP feed. I used my entire allowance in a couple of hours (1GB)
