Not sure what you problem is Jim.

Is the router working?

If not, what do you mean by not working? Is it not connecting to the internet, or not connecting to your lappy?

What type of router is it?

You should be able to log in to the router (when connected by cable) and set a new wireless password.

To log in to your router, try typing 192.168.1.1 into the address bar on internet explorer.

To log in to your router, try typing 192.168.1.1 into the address bar on internet explorer.

It's 192.168.0.1 on a lot of routers too.

run ipconfig from the command prompt (start > run > cmd on win xp, think it's similar on vista)

You'll get results like this:

type the default gateway address into your browser.

A bit of googling suggests default password for router access will be admin and no password or both of them blank.

I just bought a belkin last week - to access it the address is 192.168.2.1

The router may not have a password if you didn't set one up, so just click on submit.
