Title: Chompy comes to the party. Footy bet 26 Jan
Post by: TightEnd on January 26, 2010, 11:31:57 AM
On another thread from our Fenland wanderer.....

OK, here's the bet, Preston to win at Peterborough tonight. I'm not gonna bother just backing PNE to win at 7-4, instead I'm going with Preston-Preston half time-full time at 4-1.
There's plenty of 4-1 around and that price should be available somewhere all day.

I backed Posh to get relegated pre-season at 7-1 and that's money in the bank. We were competitive for the first dozen or so matches but aren't any more.

Mark Cooper, who's already on his final legs as manager imo, accused the players of lacking bottle at Sheff Wed over the weekend, saying they only started playing with 2-0 down.
As often as not that's been the way of it all season. We've gone 3-0 down (WBA) and 4-0 down (Cardiff) in home matches this season before coming back as they've switched off.

Preston are not in brilliant form but were never out of second gear when beating us at their place early in the season, going 2-0 up and then coasting home.
They now, of course, have Darren Ferguson as manager and this is a big game for him. He'll be desperate to win this before nicking all out best players in the summer.

Check this story out...

http://www.sportinglife.com/football/cc_championship/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=soccer/10/01/26/SOCCER_Peterborough.html&TEAMHD=nationwide1

That can't be good.

Then there's the injury worries. We have three central defenders all ruled out, which means utility man Charlie Lee will probably partner the talented but raw Ryan Bennett.

As much as Lee is a trier he's not world class and he's only 5'10". I'd be surprised if Ferguson doesn't play Jon Parkin, who's 6'4", against him to get what would be a very one-sided match-up.

Also there's an injury doubt surrounding George Boyd, who's our best player by far. If he doesn't play, we now have no replacement, as Shaun Batt was shipped out on loan to Millwall this week. Even if he does play, he can't do it all himself.

I don't like backing against my own team but this is too good to miss.

Right, after walking to Corals seeing the 4/1 available there, and being told I can have 7/2 tops, and then going to Hills on the same walk looking for the 9/5 online and being told its 6/4, I have finally got on by ringing Hills and Totesport and getting on. Lets gogogo £250 @ 9/5 and £150 @ 4/1.

Nice one, I will get on.

I am off to the Walsall vs Norwich match tonight and we are trading at 1.92 looks little too short for me. Walsall are not a bad side and drew 0-0 at Carrow Rd earlier in the season, in one of the most boring matches I have ever seen, we created so little. Though this was pre diamond formation with Hoolahan pulling the strings. We are missing Grant Holt (23 goals this season) who is crucial to our pattern of play as he is the only big physical striker we have at the club and he is our captain, tends throw himself about and generally intimidates the opposition.

I would recommend laying Norwich @1.92. Of course we are in ridic form and have won our last 6 games and have won 12 and drew 2 of our last 14.

First time I've been in the new fenland Ladbrokes since it opened, probably the best part of five years ago.
Funny old game, I pretty much lived in the old place in my later school years.
Nice to be able to walk in, hand over a wedge of cash and not even have the bet referred. Wouldn't happen over the phone.

Come on you North End! Sigh

No i don't Kev, although maybe you do.

I just said, if you read it properly, that you're only as good as your last coupon, and thats why people should listen to me, on that basis alone.

and FYI i place perhaps 2 coupon at weekends, sometimes 3 if the sunday games are tidy. and maybe 1 on a tuesday, so that 3 or 4 a week, hardly 3 million.

Have followed chomps in with preston ht/ft punt, and have had a small interest in wolves dnb@4.2 tonight, mccarthy rested plyrs again b4 for this 1, and i think many teams will fancy their chances against pool this season.

Basically just feel it's value, also on kranjcar to score first in the spurs game@10s and a few correct score punts on 2-1,3-0 and 3-1.

Well, that was one weird-ass experience, watching my beloved team and making all the right noises about how shite we are, but secretly loving every second.
I have not much emotional attachment to the mighty Poshies at the mo, as I KNOW we're going down, but a few times I realised I was shaking my head when decisions went against Preston. Oops.
Wiped out a third of my profit with a gay get-out lay of PNE at 1.67 at half-time but they were poor and were just fortunate that we were worse, naive as usual and totally out of confidence.
Cash locked down, now all I need is one semi-bad weather forecast in the next week and I'm fecking off to Tunica...

IIRC did Laddy's not introduce the naming of their big sunday tourney after the previous weeks winner?

Why don't we start that on here, therefore next week the thread should be called Colchester Kev's Footy Thread

1 Aston Villa v Arsenal - Correct Score (Backing  0 - 3 @ 22.83)
2 Blackburn v Wigan - Correct Score (Backing  1 - 2 @ 13.68)
3 Chelsea v Birmingham - Correct Score (Backing  2 - 1 @ 9.32)
4 Everton v Sunderland - Correct Score (Backing  3 - 1 @ 13.68)
Total stake:   £2.00
Your total potential win:  £79772.04

and it said that was my potential win. How can i not put it on now, thats just cost me 2 notes.

Its not worth dying over £2.
