Title: Pandora's Box Post by: tikay on December 14, 2005, 11:15:20 AM Hidden away in a little used corner of the blonde Forum is a thread entitled "Best of Red". snoops has been adding more of Red-Dog's stuff to it. There are some absolute GEMS in there - do take a look. http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=4133.0 Title: Re: Pandora's Box Post by: thetank on December 14, 2005, 12:28:20 PM I want to know when it comes out in paperback.
Red's a real pro with ...you know....words and stuff. Title: Re: Pandora's Box Post by: tikay on December 14, 2005, 12:50:09 PM Perfectly put, that Tank is a man I can relate to, despite him being a Scot "....words and stuff..." Sums it up perfectly. Title: Re: Pandora's Box Post by: Rod Paradise on December 14, 2005, 01:45:55 PM Tikay, having read the 2 books by Red's Mum & Dad, I can tell where he gets his story telling ability from. Well worth a read.

Title: Re: Pandora's Box Post by: tikay on December 14, 2005, 03:56:27 PM They are simply MARVELLOUS reads, just aneccdotal stuff, quite enchanting.
Drop Red a PM., he may be able to help. "A Wandering of Gypsies". (The Autobiography of Two Present-day Romanies"). Try ISBN # 1-9034 18-10-0 Red was kind enough to give them to me as a Birthday Pressie, along with the video "Pulp Fiction". Just make sure you read them both in the right order - Apparently Tikay didn't!!! Anyone interested in my folk's books should E-mail Bob Dawson, bob@robertdawson.co.uk He's an old family friend who went to a lot of trouble and expense to get the books published, he will be able to supply them quicker and cheaper than anyone else Trace T got them from Amazon and it took forever (Soz Trace) The titles are "A Wandering of Gypsies" and Wandering Together" Please use a large font as he is almost blind now If you have any probs, PM me Title: Re: Pandora's Box Post by: Rod Paradise on December 14, 2005, 04:37:08 PM Reds folks have written books? Whats the titles I may have to take a peek. Apart from an insight to a way of life that will be completely foreign to most, there's also a belter of a photo of a young BLONDE Red_Dog :D The stories come across as totally honest, with an amazing acceptance of things that would have me up in arms (treatment by Police/public/Govt etc). Mind you - I suppose it's difficult to protest when no-one wants to hear :( Title: Re: Pandora's Box Post by: tikay on December 14, 2005, 04:42:23 PM I found the acceptance of the prejudice agasinst them so fascinating - jeez, those folks had it tough. And it makes yoor eyes water to read passages where, for instance, a 7 month pregnant lady gets on the bus every day & goes to Mansfield (I think it was Mansfild) to spend a day knocking on doors trying to sell clothes pegs. (Which they made themselves). A must read. You'll never complain about a poker bad-beat, ever again. And despite the hardships they suffered, you can't help but get jealous of the happiness they shared, having, for example, meals cooked over an open fire, out in the open. Great, great, stuff. |
