Title: Re.. Our lovely Kev leaving blonde...
Post by: suzanne on January 28, 2010, 04:53:18 AM
In a nomal working office there would be a whipround to buy a pressie to show our appreciation for all the hard work he has done, however online that is a wee bit more difficult.

I would like to pass the cap around for donations please.

Ideally I would love to raise enough to buy Kev into a higher stake live game but if Kev is too chicken/or skint then we could just pass on the cash.

I will start the ball rolling with a tenner.

I will have to clear this with the Mods in the morning as none of them are around at 4.30am LOL but I hope its okay to post this.

I'll stake him into a higher stake game than he's ready for bankroll and skill wise.  $2 for a freezeout OK?

Are we going to sort someone to collect the cash? I don't mind sorting it if that suits everyone else.

Shall we try to get him in Feb's deepstack?

Assuming that he's available of course. If not we'll whack the lot in Larry.

I've just had a thought......

Putting Kev in a DTD deepstack is the financial equivalent of investing in a Barry Neville dog.

How's about we look to iron out the variance a bit by getting a little fund together and going for a few 20/20s or super 50's.

Or so he has something to show for it just get the guy a watch.......

Title: Re: Re.. Our lovely Kev leaving blonde...
Post by: EvilPie on January 28, 2010, 04:01:37 PM
Feb deepstack's probably a bit too close to organise as well to be fair.

I vote for fund gathering for a few weeks then see what we can do with what's there.

Everyone agree?

Down to Suzanne really, it was her idea.......

Nah, deepstack is more fun than multiple 20:20s/50s. It gets updated (presumably by tighty?) and chance for him to go deep and get a big score. Possibility to rail him as he goes.

Or more likely he's out after 10 minutes but never mind.

This thread gets more awkward every Post......now it's like a runaway train.

It's a lovely gesture, by Suzanne, & all those who have contributed.

But do me, and more importantly, Kev - a favour please. Do not put him in the DTD February Deepstack.

He will probably be very grateful if you don't, as he is hoping to be working that weekend. Updating the DTD Deepstack.

Title: Re: Re.. Our lovely Kev leaving blonde...
Post by: EvilPie on January 28, 2010, 04:12:42 PM
We need to see how much money we can get as well before we decide what to do.

I agree that a deepstack would be fun but I think we should steer clear of February. It'll give us a bit more time to collect the cash and we may find there's enough for something even bigger.

How about a couple of weeks of cash collecting then a poll on what to do with it?

Title: Re: Re.. Our lovely Kev leaving blonde...

Lol, Tighty & I saw the same problem at the same time........

I think we should get him in the Feb deepstack, if he is updating it then his expenses are covered and surely most of Blonde can make do without live updates for the first level anyway?

Title: Re: Re.. Our lovely Kev leaving blonde...

I know Kev, as he has become a good friend of mine through Blonde. And if I know him as well as I think I do, I am pretty sure he won't want to accept anything you want to give him anyway. I know that he won't take any of my posts offensively on here too.

Pretty sure you should/whoever thought of this idea should have perhaps ran it through Kev a little first. You have put him in an awkward position, not to mention everyone else who looks/posts on this thread.

But then he'd definitely have said no.

It's not like people are talking about giving him cash. Some people want to put him in a poker comp or 2 just as a thankyou for his help in the cardroom. It can't be for his updates because they're shit!!

If when the time comes he doesn't want whatever's on the plate he can play it anyway and donate any winnings sweet f.a. to a charity or something. Personally I'd want him to keep the lot but if he chose not to that's his prerogative.

If it can be arranged hopefully a few people will get to join him in whatever the comp may be. Who knows he might just want to put it in a pot and get a big round in at the next blonde bash?

There's loads of time to decide what to do and nothing's set in stone.

He put forward a hypothetical scenario where you do X but Y condition is not satisfied and asked if you would give the money back.

I don't believe they did.

If someone had started one though I'm sure that a lot of people would've donated.

It was Suzanne who came up with this idea and I know that she supports the cardroom a lot in the leagues etc. so I assume that she wanted to organise this in recognition of Kev's cardroom efforts.

Obviously Suzanne is the caring sort who actually thinks to do this kind of thing unlike most of the rest of us. We can all jump on but not of us will actually make the first move.

Maybe if she was more in to following updates she would've suggested this when Snoops and Floppy found themselves in the same situation.

Personally I'd just like to put Kev in to the biggest poker comp possible so that we can take the piss out of him when he busts out in the first hour.

I'm pretty sure that the donations being offered aren't because we feel sorry for Kev and think that a couple of hundred will help pay the bills. It's because people like the bloke and want to bung him in a poker comp just to show that what he's been trying to do in the cardroom hasn't gone unnoticed.

What's everyone's problem here? If the community wishes to show its appreciation for someone then they have every right to. If you don't agree with the way we're doing it then that's fine, you don't have to donate anything. But we don't need posts spoiling what is a very nice gesture.

GULP !!

Firstly let me just say how touched and humbled I am by the gesture. Thank you Suz for your kindness and thoughtfulness.

Thanks also to everyone who offered to chip in a few quid, again, It is very touching and generous .... However, I would not feel comfortable accepting any money from friends in this situation.

One day I might just do a staking thread (I haven't done one so far), then if people wanted to back me into an event, at least they would have a % of my scoop (obv I will win whatever I enter :D )

Thanks again for the thoughtfulness and generosity from you guys though, it means a lot.  Of course if you wanted to buy me a Jack & Ginger when our paths cross, I would find it hard to refuse.

I will hopefully be updating the deepstack first weekend of Feb, so will no doubt be seeing a good few of you at DTD.

Did Snoops and Floppy get a whip round when they got the tin tack?

also does he after give it all back if he gets his job back with blonde?

Will you be giving your sponsorship money back if you take more than 40 minutes to do your walk?

lol

no cos the money I raise is going to charity!! Totally different situation to this!!

What's the point being sponsored to do something if you don't have to do it to get the cash?

to help the starving Africans or something

Well....that backfired big time!!

It started as a geniune post as a thanks to Kev for all he has done in the past re the cardroom/leagues/promotions etc

I really enjoyed donating to the equal chance fund  ::) and the league games would never have been so much fun without his banter.

Kev was not asked in advance because he would have said exactly what he did.."Thanks but no thanks" as anyone would.

I did not think of suggesting it when snoops and flops left because I do not know them personally, maybe someone who does know them should have suggested it?

And Kev...it was not meant to be a collection of money to make you feel uncomfortable, my intentions were that some of us who appreciated all your efforts could put you into a comp then come along and rail/antirail and have a few laughs.

Double JD on me next time I see you and please put that staking thread up one day soon x

Here's hoping Matt ships me my moolah back (I'll be needing that $0.50!)

Double jack and gingers at DTD next weekend obv.

Also, some of the replies here are cringe.

Reserve me a piece any time you do a staking thread Kev, even though you didn't wanna meet me on your gay trip to my hometown.
