Title: Tonight’s Manchester Poker Tournament!
Post by: TightEnd on February 05, 2010, 02:31:53 PM
You'll see banners on the site, which refer to the following:

Mastering Manchester

On 19th March 2010, Manchester will become home to the UK’s first ever Masters Experience; a three tier poker event consisting of a poker academy, cash tournament and trade show.

Hosted by South West based company, Living it Loving it, The Masters Experience is set to be one of the UK’s top poker events of the year. Made up of different components, Masters offers excitement, knowledge and prizes.

On Friday 19th and Sunday 21st March, the Ramada Manchester Piccadilly Hotel will become the launch point for the first ever Masters Poker Academy. The Academy is an affordable event that provides a series of workshops and presentations covering all aspects of cash and tournament play. Each and every one of these sessions will give people a chance to learn from experienced poker players and improve their playing capacity.

The Trafford Centre’s Band Stand and Peel Avenue will play host to the Masters Trade Show, taking place on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st March. The show will offer a totally FREE poker tournament and a selection of promotional stands will give visitors a chance to interact with a blend of online gaming, poker and other exciting companies.

The third part of the experience is the Masters Poker Festival, held on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th March, at the stunning Circus Casino. The tournament offers all the excitement and thrills of the high stake games. With cash prizes and a new title at stake, it promises to draw out some of the big names of the poker world.

Living it Loving it put the emphasis on fun, friendly and affordable entertainment. They offer a selection of exciting products and services, ranging from trips to the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, their Poker in the Pub league to the thrilling CSI nights. The common denominator in all the events is the aim of bringing communities and like minded people together.

James Deacon, Events and Relationship Manager for Living it Loving it says: “In the last five years, poker has taken its place in the world of sport and is now considered one of the world’s most exciting and fast growing competitive entertainment. With a huge following of beginners and pros, Masters offers something for all these individuals and keeps the price reasonable and realistic”.

Future Masters Experiences will be held across all the UK’s major cities and also move into mainland Europe. This exciting event has the potential to become the world leader in poker training and bridge the gap between beginners and pros.

hopefully i can give you some answers.

On the topic of Scott!!!
I have 100% confidence in Scott’s successes and extensive knowledge of the game. If you have a look at his online profile then you will be able to get a better representation of his play and ability. Scott has done very well in the USA and Australia, he plays both live and online.. If you review his WSOP and other cashes, I am sure you will find what you are looking for.

I can accept that certain online player databases only track a limited amount of play, however we have known Scott for over 5 years and believe him to be ideal for this role.

Dave is a VERY different issue!!!!!! I will not be allowing him to give any poker advice or training!!! No, in all seriousness, Dave’s ability lies in business and recognising talent, he will not be giving lectures but he is , with the help of Scott, putting together the team of speakers.

On the question of other speakers, we are holding out on announcing any definites at the moment because of requests from our sponsors. We have a selection of  candidates but because of the nature of the event, we cannot just see their online profile and take sponsors suggestions, we need to meet them.
Our aim with the Masters Academy is to supply an effective and educational training experience. We want it to truly help peoples gain and improve not only the skill of our attendees but the reputation of poker as more than a gambling tool. This is why it is so important that we make sure the speakers not only have a strong poker knowledge but are confident, articulate and easy to relate to. We hope to announce the final line up of speakers later this month!

Also, we are running several Masters events and are still searching for a range of speakers. The current speakers have some travel limitations etc and also we want to buil up a strong group across the UK and Europe. So if anyone has any interest and thinks they are suitable, do get in touch and we can talk further about speaker slots or academy attendance!

Does this answer your questions, thank you for your interest! Anything else you needed to know?

I must be looking at the wrong profile, the one i found in THM database has 1 top 100 finish in a wsop event

Further news today

TIPS Joins Forces With The
Masters Poker Academy

On 19th March 2010, Manchester will become home to the UK’s first ever Masters Academy. The event is now being supported by The International Poker School (TIPS) and a number of their speakers.

TIPS owner and speaker Paul Zimbler will be leading sessions on both days of the Masters Poker Academy. He will be accompanied by colleague and well known poker professional, Paul Jackson. The pair will be joining a host of other speakers that are soon to be announced.
Paul Zimbler has been on the poker circuit since 1996. He is predominantly a cash
player, although he has had some success in tournaments. Back in the day when Paul started he was one of the only young players in the game. Paul was involved with many online sites in the past but now is focused on building TIPS and giving back to the poker community, as well as helping new players to enter the game. His involvement in Masters aims to further this cause.
Paul Jackson started off playing brag and later played blackjack and roulette in casinos. At one casino, he saw poker being played and picked up the game in 1985, choosing a nickname based on the Carl Weathers film Action Jackson. Since then he has had his share of various pots and is known for his online victorys. He is a strong speaker and an expert in his field.

James Deacon, Events and Relationship Manager for Living it Loving it says: “It is great to have TIPS on board and they certainly bring some wonderful speakers to the table. The Manchester Masters Academy is set to be a great event and the start of a strong relationship between LILI and TIPS”.

The final line-up of speakers will be announced next week. The Masters Poker Academy offers an effective and educational way of improving your game. The speakers have not been picked because of fame and fortune but because of their ability and knowledge of poker.

Future Masters Experiences will be held across a selection of the UK’s major cities and also move into mainland Europe. With the opportunity for TIPS to support the Academy at future events, The Masters Experience is heading for success in the poker industry.

Tickets for the Manchester Masters Poker Academy are available online at www.masterspokeracademy.com. Follow us on facebook for up-to-date information on topics, speakers and all of the Masters Experience.

Are there any seats guaranteed in the sat and what is each package worth? I also take it that it's a £125 freeze out and not a rebuy?

Post by: deacs32 on March 03, 2010, 09:05:18 AM
Yes! there is a guaranteed seat and you are right its a freeze out, the starting chips will be 5000 and the casino will send us the blind structure this week. We expect between 50 and 70 runners. The prize package is £3500!

Title: Masters Poker Academy: all the benefits for FREE
Post by: deacs32 on March 12, 2010, 05:18:30 PM
Over the past three months we have been bombarding you with Masters Poker Academy updates, ticket offers and speaker information. Unfortunately, though we are confident that the event format and speakers would be beneficial for any aspiring poker player, we have not seen the interest we have originally hoped for.

Whether we have misread the signs and feedback when doing our market research, or we have picked the wrong time or location, we have not seen the level of ticket sales to justify the Academy continuing in it’s original format. Thank you all for you interest in the Academy and for the people who have already purchased tickets, we will be refunding these fully.

However, we have a number of fantastic speakers who have committed a lot of time and effort towards this project. So not to waste these efforts, we are going to run the Academy for FREE at the Bandstand in the Trafford Centre. The topics will change to suit the audience and will run on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st. There will be a number of Pro’s speaking; Jon “Skalie” Kalmar, Paul “The Marbella Kid” Zimbler and Scott O’rielly. We will also offer the chance to play a free tournament with the poker pro’s advising and reviewing game play!

Don’t forget the Trafford Centre also has the Masters Trade Show that is now going to be an even more fantastic and exciting event. With Ladbrokes, Sporting Bet, Circus Casino and G-Casino all exhibiting on both Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st and as I mentioned, FREE pro advice and talks. Come along on either Saturday or Sunday and improve your game with great advice and tips from the speakers, we will update you with more details on Monday!

The Masters Experience is still going ahead and is still set to be a great weekend of poker and gaming. The Masters Festival at the Circus Casino Manchester still boasts a Friday Irish Open qualifier £125 + 10 at 8pm with a guaranteed seat (conditional on 25 runners or more), Saturday brings the main event of a £250 + £25 NLH and a Sunday £100 + 10 PLH/PLO.

Went on Monday to play the satellite to the main event. There was only 2 players. After asking about 50 roulette and blackjack players it got up to 7 players which did not meet the 10 player minimum requirement so no game went ahead. After a meal i came back at 7.30pm to play in the 8pm tournament on day 2 of the Masters Poker Festival. I sat in the card room from 7.30 to 8.30 pm and not one person came through the door not even a member of staff. There wasn't even a representative of The Masters of Poker Academy.

The festival if you can call it that is a complete shambles.I'm sure it has been many months in the planning , i was told about it by the cardroom supervisor back in January , but very little has been done to promote the event by The Masters of Poker Academy and also Stanley Casinos. As of Tueday 16Th March there has been no amendment on T.M.O.P.A website in regards to the cancellation of this weekends events even though a post was put up on here on the 12Th March . There has been nothing on the Stanley Casino website too only a tiny bit of text stating their regular games.

I recall only just last October where Liverpool Stanley Circus ( less than 1 hrs drive away )had their Winter Festival which was over 6 months in the planning and only attracted 27 players on day 1a and 25 players on day 1b a total of 52 players of the £500 main event. It seems to me Stanley don't care about their poker. One week later in Blackpool ( less than 1 hrs drive away) the Grosvenor festival attracted over 1000 entries over the week and the cash tables were hectic.

It was the same when Grosvenor had their festival in Manchester last April. There are plenty of poker players in Manchester especially at the smaller stakes ,the Manchester G attracts over 120 players when they hold their cheap nights twice a week.So not getting the information across in a city as big as Manchester is piss poor especially when Stanley's have many busy cardrooms close by in the northwest.

I predict the the Irish open qualifier £125+10 on 19Th march will be a flop not enough entries will generate one single seat. And in the £250 main event there will be less than 10 mostly made up of the Masters of Poker associates if they bother turning up.

Title: Re: The Masters Poker Academy
Post by: acc2020 on March 16, 2010, 08:36:38 AM
Another point , who designed the structure of the comps? Can't be a Poker Master.

Satellite ..................................2000 chips 50/100blinds doubling every 15 mins
Irish open qualifier125+10....... 5000 chips 50/100blinds doubling every 30 mins for levels 1+2 then doubling every
                                             20mins thereafter
Main event £250+25................10000 chips 50/100 blinds doubling every 30 mins for levels 1+2 then doubling every
                                             20 mins thereafter
£100+100 PLH/PLO.................5000 chips 50 /100 blinds doubling every 30 mins levels 1+2 then doubling every 20
                                             mins thereafter

I expect this structure when i play £30 , £20 and £10 comps but for £100+ is dreadful. Also they double every 20 mins and not go up in the usual increments like 200/400 then 300/600 etc...

Rant over
