Title: FA Delays Anti-homophobia film Post by: kinboshi on February 09, 2010, 11:13:11 PM http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/fa-delays-antihomophobia-film-1893363.html
Quote The FA yesterday defended its decision to delay the launch of a film aimed at tackling homophobia in football. The governing body came under fire from gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell for postponing the launch of the video, part of a campaign to stop supporters' homophobic chants and insults. Title: Re: FA Delays Anti-homophobia film Post by: Horneris on February 09, 2010, 11:53:00 PM Despite being heterosexual (he is married with 2 children, son Lucas and daughter Georgina [3]), Le Saux was dogged by rumours of homosexuality during his playing career. He attributed this to his lack of enthusiasm for the 'typical' footballer's lifestyle, his university background, and the fact that he read liberal broadsheet newspaper, The Guardian. This led to abuse from opposition fans and even players.
On one such occasion, in a Premier League match between Chelsea and Liverpool on 27 February 1999, Le Saux became involved in a running series of taunts with Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler. With Le Saux preparing to take a free kick, Fowler repeatedly bent over and pointed his backside in the Chelsea player's direction. Despite the obvious taunts, Le Saux, who refused to take the free kick, was booked for delay of play. He later struck Fowler on the edge of the Chelsea penalty area, but the incident wasn't seen by the match officials. Always found it funny that Le Saux is actually not gay, but Fowler being the low life pond scum he is just kept pushing it all the time with him. The more a read about Fowler the more glad I am he totally fuked up his career. Not sure about that, obviously the religious brigade have their views. Its the only place I've been when you will find just random non religious people as well that just make random anti-gay comments and expect people not to bat an eyelid, and they don't. If you give someone a bad beat online to an American, other than 'retard', what the most common abuse your most likely to get? I rest my case.......I often play up to it now and say yes I'm gay I take that as a compliment not an insult, can I suck your dick etc, its so LOL they just hit the fking roof normally. I think you might be underestimating the prevalence of religion in the States. Not just talking about the fundy-right wing christians, but the way it permeates through a lot of their society. Homophobia isn't just down to religious teachings, but it does have a lot to answer for in that area. I lived over there for nearly a year a while back, and some of the comments I got about us going on the piss were WTF? Basically many people assume if you have more than a few beers that your a raving alcoholic. When I get to the weekend, there is nothing I love more than a good piss up with a few mates, they just could not get their head around that one, if you go into bars you are just lowlife in many peoples eyes. |
