Title: Feldman fights back...
Post by: cardplayer on February 15, 2010, 03:10:31 PM
Andrew Feldman is front page of this month's issue defending himself from a lot of criticism he has been receiving from some rather well known figures in the game.

The article is below:

The downs are the constant criticism found mostly on poker forums where the status quo is to “jump on the bandwagon”. This kind of thing usually comes part and parcel with being publicly known, but there are two sides to every story, so perhaps if people are going to judge they should firstly make sure they are well informed.

I don't see ANY bad things being said about Julian Thew's sponsorship deal, or any one who begrudges Julian when he wins a big tourney.

Funny that.

Why does this guy seem to attract so much vilification?   He hardly seems any worse than the rest.

The kid needs an intervention, I have no problem with him personally and I have no problem with bum hunting, but every time he does an interview, appears on TV or any sort of public appearance he shoots himself in the foot big time. If I was Full Tilt I would ban him from speaking altogether, but that would sort of make him being sponsored a bit pointless.

The reason he gets the stick for bum hunting is because he also tries to reap the rewards and status that high profile and sponsorship brings. imo you cant be both a bum hunter type and also someone who regularly appears on front covers and TV shows, especially when you have a reputation as a bum hunter because the last thing you want to do is alienate the people you play against by announcing they are a bum by merit of the fact that you are sat with Andrew Feldman. If you really want to get the soft games, dont be sponsored and on TV every week - get it quietly, if you really want to be a high profile sponsored pro, dont be surprised, bothered or go on the counterattack when a small faction of the poker community bad mouth you on a forum.

Bless him though, he is only young, seemed like a nice enough lad when I spoke to him once, just needs to pull his socks up.

LOL ... I love all the hate towards Feldman, he seeks out the games and players where he knows he has a big advantage eh ?

Some call that bumhunting, I for one call it bloody shrewd and intelligent.

I have been around the UK poker circuit long enough to see player after player go busto and disappear from the face of the earth because they just wanted to splash the cash and be the big "I am".

Any boxing manager worth his salt will look after his fighters and make bouts for them that they know their man has an edge in, so that their boxer can progress in the game and stay in the game.

Having the brains to seek out games where he has an edge is something that should be applauded, not hated imo.

You can tell him that yourself when he joins you at the cash tables

Doesn't he just strike you as a complete arse? Nothing wrong with so-called "bum-hunting" imo, that's just sensible...he just gets on my tits.

Because it's fashionable to knock people who are successful.

Oh ok.

I'm not very with it, all I know about poker celebrities is that durrrr has four r's and there are other ones too, their names are funny colours, and when you knock them out, Full Tilt put a buy-in in your account and send you a t-shirt.

I know what you mean, but there are plenty of successful poker players out there that don't get knocked, perhaps because they appear to be more likeable...

Don't have a problem with Feldman personally, seems an ok kinda guy......Luke Schwartz on the other hand....complete spoilt child, can't stick his tantrums.

Only going on what I've seen on the telly though.

I dont dislike him because of the bum hunting/alledged cheating/because cos doesnt like him...I dislike him because he comes across like a complete arse.  Plus hes just got a face i'd love to punch.

The fact that Full Tilt acknowledges me as a good player should shut everyone up because Full Tilt are very selective about their pros

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

They have the most joke pro's by a country mile!

guy seems nice enough tbh, down to earth and obviously talented. I must admit it doesnt endear when he joins hu tables and asks the fish if he wants to leave and play himself instead ,however, i think hes shrewd enough to know thats out of line..... from what iv heard from ppl  close to him though, hes harmless and a nice guy. gl to him.

Is this the guy who supposedly ripped his "mate" off for big big dough coaching him on MSN while playing against him without the other guy knowing? Or am I thinking of another?

This is not clear to me - are you saying Feldman didn't rip his mate off and in fact had it done to him? Is this what he told you?

Post by: lucky_scrote on February 17, 2010, 08:56:55 AM
I think Feldman might be a nice guy, he's nice to me anyway even though he does come across as sociably akward. I just don't think he realises that he comes across as a fool because he's not humble at all about his success, I can't quite figure it out.

I've heard so many stories about the msn setup with a "coach" to play a "random" heads up. I doubt the truth will ever surface with this story so I don't think it's fair to point any fingers.

That's why the guy should just come out and do a well or something. One of the most reputable people in UK poker told me that Andrew was the guy who did the screwing over and then proceeded to tell everyone it was him who got screwed.

As Dr Carter says, it's probably unfair to say one way or the other though it would certainly be easier and less shady if Feldman just came out and said it on record like it is.

Mateyboy sits down at a HU table and antes up with anyone who sits down, he has the fortune for a fish to come a long, someone watching spots the fish and swoops in and persuades him away, proper twatty behaviour.

Say you are playing fairly high stakes cash and are sat at a 6 seat table with a fish on betfair.  In the past, if a fella appears in the chat and tries to get the fish to join his heads up table, 90% of the time it was Feldman.  He also sits out a bit quickly when the fish goes busto.

I am a bum hunter to an extent too, but I think most other bum hunters view themselves above Feldman.   He pretty much breaks two fundamental unwritten rules, one he steals your pay cheque and two he lets the fish know he is the fish.

Problem is rather than Feldman stopping, others have adopted his tactics.  If he was close to busto I'd get it, but he is allegedly filthy rich so doesn't need to do this.

I won't comment on any other rumours as I have no first hand experience.
