Title: Ruling From Rude Tournament Director at Les A London
Post by: UpTheMariners on February 24, 2010, 02:54:36 PM
Had an interesting situation in last nights comp, were a guy bet the river and i called. he mucks his hand straight away and the dealer ships the pot to me. i push my cards face down towards the dealer. the tournament director who is watching nearby then says i need to show the hand to win the pot. ok fair enough, i ask if i don't show the hand and just muck who wins the pot, bearing in mind the pot is already in my stack? the director then proceeds to shout at me telling me to turn my cards over.

also what if the pot isn't already in my stack and i'm the only one left with cards who wins then?

On my table last night, a player had been given a big decision for all his chips on the river......5 seconds later this Tournament Director taps him on the shoulder and says " one minute"!!

He mistook a glace from the dealer, that the guy was taking too long......the look on the players face was hilarious!!

What happens in a cash game in this scenario (if the only player left in the hand mucks)?

this but you shouldn't really be able to do it if the dealer's protecting the muck. he should let the first player much but not the last

I hate this rule and had something of a heated dicussion about the prinicpal of it with James Browning about it at a table.

If you pay someone off on the river, and they insta muck, there should be no reason that you have to show your hand (although the rules in the UK are pretty much show both cards to win a pot). They get the benefit of seeing what you called with and how you played your hand on each street, yet you get nothing (except the pot). Most bonkers rule in poker.

Im pretty sure that Roberts Rules say that if your opponent mucks that you dont have to show to win the pot (my only ever time penalty tells me so!)

RRoP says......

1. To win any part of a pot, a player must show all of his cards faceup on the table, whether they were used in the final hand played or not.

pretty sure when we were starting the UKIPT Manchester they were explaining some rules and the dealer said that in this particular tournament if a player mucks, the player left with a hand does not have to show his hand to take the pot.

They said this was a different rule to most UK tournies - maybe cos it was a stars tourney?

The dealer can check cards and show to TD if there is any legitimate question of chip dumping

All TD's reserve the right to shout at any and all players at will. ;tk;

You all deserve it. Especially Tikay.

Yup this is the case. Last man standing rule. I asked for a ruling and felt pretty stupid when the guy was allowed to muck behind makes sense but has Dave mfkin Jones pointed out makes chip dumping very simple

Not all TDs, just those who've earned the right to shout ;)
